Public guided tours
The Parliament Building in Vienna is not only the place where
Austria’s federal laws are debated and enacted but also an outstanding example of the opulent “Ringstrasse architecture” of
the 19th century. With this monumental structure inspired by
the temples of classical Greece, Theophil Hansen created an
architectural parable of democracy and the tasks of the representatives of the people.

We thus cordially invite you to have a closer look at this artistic
embodiment of the idea of parliamentary democracy and to
learn more about its underlying symbolism in the course of a
guided tour. Moreover, you will have an opportunity to see for
yourself how and where Austria’s national laws are adopted,
who is involved in their development and what else is happening in the Austrian Parliament.
Throughout the year, we organise public guided tours at fixed
hours. In addition, you will find tasteful and original souvenirs
at the shop in our Visitor Center.

Single ticket
€ 5,–
Single ticket, reduced
€ 2,50
for disabled guests, apprentices, senior citizens, students
(maximum age 25 years), persons on military service.
Presentation of an ID necessary.
Free admission for persons aged 19 or under.
Currently, no guided tours of the Parliament Building are
available on Sundays and public holidays as well as on session
days of the National Council and Federal Council. The Parliamentary Administration reserves the right to cancel tours on
short notice if parliamentary business requires so. We kindly
ask you to refer to www.parlament.gv.at/ENGL for up to date
information on the tour schedule.
Guided tours for groups
Guided tours for groups are available Monday through Saturday.
All groups principally require prior appointment. Upon request,
we can also organise guided tours for groups in the languages
English, French, Italian, Croatian, Portuguese, Serbian, Spanish
and Hungarian.

What you may expect...
Our guided tour takes you from the Visitor Center to the Vestibule
and through to the Columned Hall, which was constructed in
the style of the Greek Parthenon. You will see the Session Halls
of the two Chambers of the Austrian Parliament: the National
Council and the Federal Council.
You will also have the opportunity to see the Session Hall of
the former House of Deputies. Designed in the style of a Greek
theatre this magnificent Hall offers you an insight into the
history of Austria, as it was used as the Session Hall of representatives of 17 kingdoms and provinces during the monarchy.
All tours last approximately 1 hour.
Access to the building
Please use the new central entrance behind the statue of
Pallas Athena.

Führungen durch das
österreichische Parlament
Das Parlamentsgebäude in Wien ist nicht nur Sitz der österreichischen Bundesgesetzgebung, sondern auch ein herausragendes Beispiel der so genannten Ringstraßenarchitektur
des 19. Jahrhunderts. Theophil Hansen hat mit diesem Monumentalbau in antikem Stil der Demokratie und der Aufgabe der
Volksvertretung ein architektonisches Gleichnis gesetzt.
Wir laden Sie daher herzlich ein, bei unseren Führungen diese künstlerische Umsetzung der Idee der parlamentarischen
Demokratie näher zu betrachten und mehr über die dahinterstehende Symbolik zu erfahren. Sie haben dabei aber auch
Gelegenheit zu erkunden, wie und wo die Gesetze für ganz
Österreich beschlossen werden, wer an ihrer Entstehung Anteil
hat und was sich im Hohen Haus sonst noch tut.
Wir bieten Ihnen ganzjährig öffentliche Führungen zu fixen
Zeiten. Geschmackvolle und originelle Mitbringsel finden Sie

Das erwartet Sie bei einer Führung
Gruppenführungen werden von Montag bis Samstag angeboten. Die Termine werden nach Verfügbarkeit vergeben. Um
eine rechtzeitige Voranmeldung wird gebeten. Auf Anfrage
organisieren wir auch Gruppenführungen in Englisch, Französisch, Italienisch, Kroatisch, Portugiesisch, Serbisch, Spanisch
und Ungarisch.

Colonnaded Hall
Säulenhalle
Wer waren eigentlich der Architekt bzw. der Bauherr dieses Gebäudes, welches zu den prominentesten entlang der
Ringstraße zählt? Woher stammt der Marmor für die Säulen
der großen Halle im Herzstück des Hauses? Was hat es mit
der Statue des römischen Kaisers Augustus im Historischen
Sitzungssaal auf sich? Antworten auf diese oder ähnliche
Fragen erhalten Sie bei einer ungefähr einstündigen
Führung.
Ausgehend vom BesucherInnenzentrum führt Sie der
Rundgang in das Obergeschoß des historischen Bauwerks,
wo Sie über die Vorhalle mit antiken Gottheiten in die beeindruckende Säulenhalle gelangen, welche im Stil des
Parthenontempels auf der Akropolis in Athen errichtet
wurde.
Einen starken Kontrast bildet der nach seiner völligen Zerstörung im Zweiten Weltkrieg neu errichtete Sitzungssaal
des Nationalrates im Vergleich zur gänzlich erhaltenen
Architektur des ehemaligen Reichsratssitzungssaals, in
dem zur Zeit der österreichisch-ungarischen Monarchie die
Tagungen des Abgeordnetenhauses stattfanden.
Benützen Sie bitte den Zentraleingang direkt hinter dem
Pallas Athene-Brunnen.
