Lo stile della cantante-autrice inglese Sarah-Jane Morris, un grande nome della
musica mondiale, spazia dal rock al blues al jazz e al soul, con un’estensione di quattro ottave che fa letteralmente venire i brividi.
Diventata famosa per la sua collaborazione con I Communards a metà degli anni ’80, la Jane
Morris ha sempre attratto l’attenzione su di sé sia per il suo impegno civile che per la sua voce
tellurica, una voce che parte dall’anima.
I suoi più grandi successi, oltre che in Gran Bretagna, li ha ottenuti in Giappone, Germania,
Italia e Grecia. La vittoria agli European Grammy awards e quella del Festival di Sanremo,
nel 1991, in coppia con Riccardo Cocciante, l’hanno fatta conoscere al pubblico più vasto.
Il Festival della Canzone Italiana l’ha vista protagonista anche nel 1990 con Riccardo Fogli e
nel 2006 a fianco di Simona Bencini.
I suoi inizi risalgono agli anni ’80 con le band The Republic e Happy End.
A New York si unisce ai Communards con i quali, nel 1986, scala le classifiche di vendita e
riscuote un successo internazionale con la canzone “Don’t leave me this way”.
Nel 1989 la cantante incide il suo primo album da solista: Sarah-Jane Morris ricevendo l’applauso della critica e vendendo 100.000 copie; nello stesso anno è votata come Miglior cantante femminile dalla rivista italiana Rockstar e le vengono donate le chiavi della città di Verona dopo la sua apparizione all’Arena.
Il successo in Europa culmina con la partecipazione come artista di supporto ai tour dei Simply
Red.
Nel 1990 si esibisce alla Fenice di Venezia cantando per il Primo Ministro italiano.
Il suo secondo album Heaven, del 1992, è un successo europeo e per il terzo, Blue Valentine, del
1994, scrivono tra gli altri Sting e Sade.
Nel 1997 Gli Stadio la invitano a prendere parte al loro album Dammi 5 minuti con la canzone The Same.
Nel 2001 esce l’Album August, una brillante collezione di canzoni, da Nick Cave a Billy Holliday, che ottiene consensi unanimi di critica e pubblico.
Nell’ottobre 2006 la Morris ha celebrato i 25 anni di carriera con la pubblicazione di un doppio
album, After All These Years, una compilation di 34 brani, entrata subito nelle Top 40 in Europa, che ripercorre la carriera di Sarah Jane.
Nel 2008 è uscito l’album “Migratory Birds”.
“Where it hurts” è il titolo del nuovo album che è stato pubblicato dalla Nun Records nel 2009;
è una dichiarazione intima e personale in un momento difficile della vita della cantante (la
separazione dal marito dopo 22 anni di matrimonio) ma tutt’altro che sdolcinata. Vi si legge la
lotta per una sorta di rinascita e la panoramica di un mondo anch’esso sofferente ma i cui cittadini credono che c’è una nuova vita che ci aspetta.

The CD traces Sarah Jane’s career from her early days with political bands The Republic and The

KEVIN ARMSTRONG - chitarrista
La fama di Kevin Armstrong come chitarrista di grande talento e reputazione ha origine negli
anni Ottanta quando incise due album col suo gruppo Local Heroes per l’etichetta Oval di Charlie Gillette, comparendo nei primi album di Thomas Dolby e lavorando come direttore musicale per David
Bowie al Live Aid Si è esibito con Prefab Sprout, ha scritto canzoni insieme a A. Morrissey e suonato con la
band di Jonathan Ross’ Last Resort insieme a Steve Nieve. Kevin è tornato a lavorare con Bowie per l’album
Tin Machine e nella tournée che ne è seguita ed ha prodotto due album di successo per Keziah Jones. Negli
anni Novanta Kevin ha creato uno studio di incisione a Londra per concentrarsi sia sulla composizione sia
sulla produzione per TV e film mentre si esibiva dal vivo regolarmente come chitarrista in Europa e negli
USA con la cantante blues/jazz Sarah Jane Morris. Ha lavorato lungamente per la serie televisiva inglese
Comic Relief does Fame Academy, prodotto musica per Derren Brown Mind Control e inoltre ha prodotto
le basi musicali per molti spot televisivi e commerciali. Kevin ha effettuato una tournée mondiale come
chitarrista con Sinead O’Connor nel 2007/2008 e continua a produrre e comporre.

Der Ruf Kevin Armstrongs als Gitarrist großen Talents beginnt in den 80er Jahren, als er zwei Alben mit seiner Gruppe Local Heroes
für das Etikett Charlie Gilette aufnimmt, in den ersten Alben von Thomas Dolby erscheint und für Dadiv Bowie als Musikdirektor am
Live Aid arbeitet. Er ist mit Prefab Sprout aufgetreten, hat mit A. Morrissey songs geschrieben und mit Steve Nieve in der Band Jonathan Ross’
Last Resort gespielt. Danach hat er mit Bowie am Album Tin Machine und an dessen Tournée gearbeitet und mit Keziah Jones zwei erfolgreiche
Alben produziert.
In den 90er Jahren hat Kevin in London ein Aufnahme-Studio gegründet, um sich sowohl auf die Komposition als auch auf Fernseh-und
Filmproduktion zu konzentrieren, während er in Europa und in den USA regelmäsig mit der blues/jazz Sängerin Sarah Jane Morris live auftritt.
Er hat lange für die englische Fernsehserie Comic Relief does Fame Academy gearbeitet, für Derren Brown Mind Control und für verschiedene
Fernseh- und kommerzielle Spots die Musik Basis produziert.
Kevin war 2007/2008 als Gitarrist auf Welt-Tour mit Sinead O’Connor und ist weiterhin als Produzent und Komponist tätig.

Kevin Armstrong first made his reputation as a guitarist in the 1980s releasing two albums with his own band Local Heroes on Charlie
Gilletts’s Oval label and featuring on Thomas Dolby’s early albums and as musical director for David Bowie at Live Aid. He played on
Iggy Pop’s Blah Blah Blah album and MD’d the touring band of 1986/87. He went on to play guitar for Prefab Sprout, co-wrote songs and played
with Morrissey , played guitar in the house band for Jonathan Ross’ Last Resort with Steve Nieve and toured Japan with Sandie Shaw and later
Kevin Ayers. Kevin returned to work with Bowie on the Tin Machine album and tour and has produced two hit albums for Keziah Jones. In the
1990s Kevin established a studio in London to concentrate on composition and production for TV and films while still performing regularly as a
guitarist in Europe and the US with blues/jazz chanteuse Sarah Jane Morris.
Kevin undertook production work for the second Fame Academy series for BBC TV and the attendant spin-off albums including a Bee-Gees
cover album, the Winners album and co-produced tracks for winner Alex Parks Solo LP. He wrote and produced music for Trouble in Paradise
for ITV, worked extensively on the Comic Relief does Fame Academy series, produced music for Derren Brown Mind Control and also produces
the original content for Tesco TV’s in-store broadcasting network and numerous commercials. Kevin toured the world as guitarist with Sinead
O’Connor in 2007/2008 and continues to produce and compose.
TIM CANSFIELD - chitarrista
E’ nato a Trinidad nel 1951 ma cresciuto in Gran Bretagna. Ha collaborato con moltissimi artisti e gruppi fra i quali: Bee Gees, Steve
Winwood, Elton John, Annie Lennox, Al Green, Ray Charles, Heaven 17, Swing Out Sister, Terence Trent Darby, Billy Preston, Chaka
Khan, Tina Turner, Donna Summer, Shaggy, All Saints, Will Young, Millie Jackson, Whitney Houston, Seal. Collabora frequentemente con
Steve Winwood, Swing Out Sister e vari altri gruppi della capitale.

Roby MATANO cantante dei CAMPIONI, produttore, compositore, talent-scout,
autore di programmi musicali per RAIDUE, nonché scopritore, primo produttore e
uno dei principali attori della storia di LUCIO BATTISTI è il protagonista del concerto-tributo ad uno dei maggiori artisti della musica leggera italiana, scomparso nel 1998: “LUCIO
BATTISTI: così è nato il sogno!”.
Lo spettacolo è un racconto musicale, realizzato con la precisione e la sinteticità tipiche di Roby
MATANO, che partendo dall’incontro dello stesso Roby Matano proprio con Lucio Battisti, attraverso musica e parole farà rivivere la storia, gli incontri, ed in particolare la nascita delle canzoni di
Lucio BATTISTI.
Durante il concerto saranno eseguiti, oltre ai grandi successi noti a tutti, alcuni brani che Lucio
Battisti ha interpretato insieme a Roby Matano nei CAMPIONI e brani inediti scritti proprio da
Roby Matano e Lucio Battisti mai pubblicati.
Roberto MATANO esordisce come cantante nel 1955 con il quartetto di Luciano FINESCHI,
dopo esperienze nelle Orchestre di Dora Musumeci e Milleluci di Roma, diventa nel 1958 il cantante dei Campioni, gruppo con cui incide decine di dischi ed effettua diverse tournée italiane ed estere.
Dal 1963 alterna all’attività coi Campioni, quella di solista registrando numerosi 45 giri per diverse
etichette.
Tra il 1964 ed il 1966 si occupa della carriera di un giovane chitarrista-autore di nome LUCIO
BATTISTI con cui instaura un rapporto di profonda amicizia.
Nello stesso periodo avvia l’attività di produttore e talent scout prima per la Durium e poi per altre
etichette.
Pur non avendo mai interrotto la sua carriera di cantante e produttore, ha collaborato a diverse
trasmissioni televisive e radiofoniche come consulente musicale.
Lucio Battisti: so ist ein Traum geboren!
Roby Matano Sänger von CAMPIONI, Produzent, Komponist, Talentscout, Autor von
musikalischen Programmen für den Sender RAI sowie Entdecker, Produzent und ein wichtiger
Akteur in der Geschichte von Avalon. Er ist der Star der Konzert-Hommage an einen der
größten Künstler der Musik Light Italiener, der im Jahr 1998 starb: “Lucio Battisti: so ist ein Traum
geboren”.
Die Show ist eine musikalische Erzählung, mit Präzision und Synthetik typisch für Roby Matano, Die
Geschichte handelt von den Treffen mit Lucio Battisti und wird anhand von Musik und Erzählungen
dargestellt, insbesondere die Entstehungen der Lieder von Lucio Battisti.
Während des Konzertes werden zusätzlich zu den großen Erfolgen einige Lieder, die Roberto Matano in
CAMPIONI gesungen hat, auch Lieder, die nie veröffentlicht worden sind, vorgetragen.
Roberto Matano singt im Jahre 1955 mit den Quartett von Luciano Fineschi. Nach weiteren Erfahrungen
im Orchester von „Dora Musumeci e Milleluci di Rome, wird er im Jahre 1958 Leadsänger der Champions,
mit der er Dutzende von Platten produziert und zahlreiche Tournes im In- und Ausland macht.
Seit 1963 viele Arbeiten mit “Campioni” sowie als Solist mit vielen Aufnahmen für verschiedene Labels tätig.
Zwischen 1964 und 1966 befasst er sich mit der Karriere eines jungen Gitarristen und Autor namens
Avalon, mit dem er eine tiefe Freundschaft aufbaut.
Zur gleichen Zeit beginnen die Aktivitäten als Produzent und Talent-Scout zunächst für das Label Durium
und dann auch für andere.
Seine Karriere als Sänger und Produzent nie unterbrechend, war er in verschiedenen Fernseh-und
Radiokanäle als musikalischer Berater tätig.

Roby Matano, vocalist of the band “I Campioni”, producer, composer, talent scout, author
of musical programs for RAI as well as discoverer, largest producer and a major player in the
history of Lucio battisti, is the star of the concert-tribute to one of the greatest artists of Italian
pop, who died in 1998: “Lucio Battisti: how the dream was born”.
The show is a musical tale, created with the concise precision typical of Roby Matano, which, beginning
from his encounter with Lucio Battisti, through music and texts, will make the story, the encounters, and
most of all the compositions of Lucio Battisti’s lyrics come to life again.
During the concert, in addition to some of the greatest hits known to everyone, some songs that Battisti
played together with Roby Matano and “I Campioni” will be performed, together with some unpublished
works written by Roby Matano and Lucio Battisti.
Roberto Matano debuts as a singer in 1955 together with the quartet of Luciano Fineschi, after having worked
in the Dora Musumeci Orchestra and the Milleluci Orchestra in Rome; in 1958 he became the lead singer of
“I Campioni”, a band that recorded many LPs and made several tours both in Italy and abroad.

programs and as a music adviser.
