Peter Matulik In order to take account of the steadily increasing demand for energy in Slovakia, E.ON. has erected a combined gas and steam power plant to generate electricity with a rated output of 400 megawatts in Malzenice, around 75 kilometers north-east of Bratislava. Porr Technobau und Umwelt AG (now Porr Bau GmbH) was awarded by the general contractor Siemens AG the contract for the civil construction works and was responsible for the technical management of the executing joint venture. The earthworks and the foundation works of the facilities, which have been divided into several single units, started in November 2009, at the most unfavourable time of the year. A tight construction schedule provided the almost simultaneous implementation of all single structures. In 2009 the execution of the concrete works for the plant foundation as well as the erection of the office buildings was required. The plant manufacturer’s works, supplying and installing major components: gas turbine, steam turbine, generator and transformer as well as construction work on boiler including a trial operation should be completed till the end of 2010, in early 2011 the plant was put into operation.
