Please heed the following pieces of advice: ■ Be careful whom you give your money! ■ Ask questions! The less information you get the more doubtful is the purpose! ■ Mistrust any obtrusive charity appeals! ■ If you are unsure: Obtain information first and, only when you are satisfied with it, donate! ■ Focus your donations on organisations known to you as serious! ■ Ask for substantive written information! If you are in doubt, inform yourself! The reports of the Federal Government and the federal states about the protection of the Constitution offer further information at www.verfassungsschutz.de. You willl find further general information about donation schemes and on counselling for donors at the Deutsches Zentralinstitut für soziale Fragen (German Central Institute for Social Issues) at www.dzi.de. Check whom you want to support! Many cases prove that collected donations benefit organisations and persons who use these funds directly or indirectly to finance terrorist activities. Obtain reliable information about the credibility of those who collect donations! Assure yourself that you do not in any way support terrorist activities with your donation! See to it that your good intentions to help people in need do not eventually achieve the opposite aim. Please ask the following questions to make sure that your donations achieve the right aim: Bear in mind that supporting banned organisations is punishable. What is the objective pursued by those who collect donations? The reports of the Federal Government and the federal states about the protection of the Constitution give you an overview of the organisations banned in Germany. How is the charity appeal designed? Is the advertisement objective, unambiguous and informative? Don’t give your donations into wrong hands! Without donations in kind or cash, humanitarian assistance is hardly possible in situations of crisis, disaster or for the fate of an individual. Numerous organisations and private persons appeal to your willlingness to help. Are you sure that these appeals are serious and that your donation in fact benefits humanitarian purposes only? Is the donation solely and exclusively used to pursue charitable purposes? Are questions addressed to the organisation answered frankly? Does the organisation also provide financial reports or reports about its activities? Does the organisation subject itself to audits by third parties? Is there concrete evidence of the projects promoted with donations?
