The Belle Starr Story | Mein Körper für ein Pokerspiel
Il mio corpo per un poker gilt als der »einzige weiblich-feministische
Spaghetti-Western« und ist Lina Wertmüller zufolge »ein Fall, wie er
nicht zweimal vorkommt, ein Film aus dem Stegreif«. Seine Produktionsgeschichte folgt einem worst-case-Szenario: Nachdem der Regisseur
das Team verlassen hat, ruft die Hauptdarstellerin die befreundete Regisseurin ans Set nach Jugoslawien. Unter Pseudonym nimmt sie den Job an
und versucht zu retten, was zu retten ist. Doch damit nicht genug: Auch
der Hauptdarsteller sucht das Weite...
The Belle Starr Story is considered to be the »only feminist Spaghetti
Western ever directed by a woman« and, according to Lina Wertmüller,
»something that doesn't happen twice, a one-off film«. The story of its
production is like a worst-case scenario. After the director abandons the
team, the leading actress persuades a director friend to join the set in
Yugoslavia. She takes on the job under a pseudonym and tries to rescue
what is left to rescue. But that isn't the end of it: the main actor does a
runner too...
Il mio corpo per un poker ist ein beachtliches B-Movie mit einer etwas
unstimmigen Rahmenhandlung, hastigen Zooms und einem obsessiven
Gebrauch von Großaufnahmen seiner Heldin. Im Mittelpunkt steht Elsa
Martinelli als Belle Starr, das sommersprossige Flintenweib mit langer,
roter Mähne. Wunderbar ihre Auftritte im hautengen schwarzen Lederanzug mit Sombrero, Colt oder Zigarre. So gekleidet singt sie No Time
for Love, reitet ihrer Bande in der Prärie voran und holt schießend die
Freundin vom Galgen. (Es geht in diesem Film ganz zentral auch um
sexuelle Gewalt, einen Moment lang sieht es sogar so aus, als würde auch
das erzählerische Tabu des Vatermords gebrochen.)
Lina Wertmüller hat sich erst sehr spät zur Urheberschaft von l mio corpo
per un poker bekannt.
The Belle Starr Story is a remarkable B-movie with a somewhat
incongruous subplot, hasty zooms and an obsessive use of close-ups
of the heroine. Elsa Martinelli plays Belle Starr, the freckle-faced, redheaded gunwoman. Appearing in a magnificent tight black leather suit
with sombrero, Colt and cigar, she sings No Time for Love, leads her
gang on horseback across the prairie and rescues her friend from the
gallows. (One of the central themes of the film is sexual violence. For
one moment, the film even looks like it's going to break the narrative
taboo of patricide.)
It was only much later that Lina Wertmüller professed authorship of The
Belle Starr Story.
Biografie von Lina Wertmüller
Geboren 1928 in Rom, studierte sie hier von 1945 – 1951 an der Accademia d'arte drammatica. Nach ihrem Abschluss gründete sie die Theatergruppe Harlequin, schrieb ihre ersten Stücke und ging auf Tournee.
Zurück in Rom arbeitete sie als Journalistin, Schauspielerin, Autorin
und Bühnenbildnerin. Zum Film kam sie durch ihre enge Freundschaft
mit Marcello Mastroianni und dessen Frau Flora Carabella, die sie 1963
als Regieassistentin an das Set von Federico Fellini zu den Dreharbeiten
von Achteinhalb brachte. Im selben Jahr entstand mit I basilischi 1963
der erste Film unter ihrer Regie. Ihren Durchbruch schaffte Wertmüller
1972 mit einer Serie von vier Filmen mit dem italienischen Schauspieler Giancarlo Giannini in der Hauptrolle. Der letzte Film dieser Serie,
Pasqualino settebellezze aus dem Jahr 1976, wurde für vier Oscars nominiert und war international erfolgreich.
Biography of Lina Wertmüller
Born 1928 in Rome where she studied at the Accademia d'arte
drammatica from 1945 – 1951. After graduating, she founded the
theatre group Harlequin, wrote her first plays and went on tour. Back
in Rome, she worked as a journalist, actress, author and set designer.
She came to film through her close friendship with Marcello Mastroianni
and his wife Flora Carabella, who in 1963 brought her in as assistant
director on the set of Federico Fellini's 8½. The following year saw her
directorial debut with The Lizards. Her breakthrough came in 1972 with
a series of four films with Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini cast in the
title role. The last film of this series, Seven Beauties, which came out
in 1975, was nominated for four Oscars and was an international hit.
