As a global company serving the world’s leading vehicle manufacturers, GKN Driveline develops, builds and supplies an extensive range of automotive driveline components – for use in the smallest ultra low-cost car to the most sophisticated premium vehicle demanding the most complex driving dynamics. GKN Driveline is a leading global producer of CVJ Systems, AWD Systems, Trans Axle Solutions and eDrive Systems and operates in 22 countries at 46 manufacturing locations employing approximately 26,500 people. Every year millions of cars are produced for the world’s roads. For every car, in every country, the challenge is always the same: to transmit power from the engine to the wheels in the most efficient, economical and reliable way possible. Constant velocity joints, AWD components and systems, differentials, eAxles and eTransmissions are developed at the facility in Lohmar, Germany. Two new test rigs with a broad performance spectrum were built for theses tasks. The test rig design is rugged and compact to achieve high levels of vibration stiffness and therefore extremely smooth running operation of the mechanical components. Air springs with mechanical level control are installed to insulate vibration from the clamping bed, so that the machine bed can be automatically leveled when the different test assemblies are mounted. The test rig has been designed so that test objects with different geometrical shapes can be tested. The dynamometer machines with integrated ball casters and highly flexible power cables can be manually positioned on the clamping bed corresponding to the test object. The height of the drive motor can be electromechanically adjusted to adapt to the different distances between axles of the test objects. Configuration Details Siemens 1SR1 electrical machines, fed from a SINAMICS S120 converter cabinet unit, are used for the test benches. The electrical power is exchanged in coupled operation via a common DC link. Measuring flanges from the HBM company are used to dynamically acquire the torque and Safeset safety couplings are integrated in the drive train to protect the test object. Setpoints are entered via the TCS3 GKN test bench control software, which is connected to the Siemens CATS TC500 open-loop and closed-loop control system via PROFINET. Both systems are operated and controlled by SIMATIC industrial rack PCs. The distributed measuring and open-loop control technology based on SIMATIC ET 200S is networked via PROFINET. Customer benefits ■■ Overall operationally safe and reliable design ■■ High degree of flexibility when arranging machines and therefore short re-equipping times ■■ Excellent smooth running properties – even at high speeds (16,000 rpm) ■■ Three-phase induction motors in 4-quadrant operation are used ■■ The standard GKN automation is used in conjunction with the Siemens CATS TC500 closed-loop control system ■■ This multi-machine system is controlled by the CATS TC500 with a high dynamic performance ■■ Standard Siemens industrial PCs are used, no special modules are used ■■ Simple maintenance and high availability are guaranteed ■■ Expandable in a modular fashion via PROFINET Weitere Informationen: More information: E-Mail:[email protected] Internet:www.siemens.de/pruefstand Siemens AG Process Industries and Drives Large Drives P.O.
