Sehr geehrte Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer der Delegationsreise in das Königreich Bahrain
und in die Vereinigten Arabischen Emirate,
das Bild von Gesellschaften, die einseitig auf dem Geschäft mit Öl und Gas beruhen, ist veraltet.
Längst haben die Volkswirtschaften der arabischen Golfländer damit begonnen, sich zu diversifizieren. Dienstleistungen, Finanzwirtschaft und Handel haben sich als feste Größen etabliert.
Die bilateralen Beziehungen von Deutschland mit dem Königreich Bahrain sowie mit den Vereinigten Arabischen Emiraten (VAE) sind gut und intensiv. Sowohl auf diplomatischer als auch auf
wirtschaftlicher und gesellschaftlicher Ebene pflegen die beiden Länder mit Deutschland eine seit
Jahrzehnten währende Partnerschaft. Deutschland gilt als wichtiger und zuverlässiger Handelspartner.
Das erstmals in Abu Dhabi stattfindende Business Diplomacy Forum knüpft an diese starken
Beziehungen an, die in der heutigen Welt wichtiger sind als je zuvor. Als Länderverein der deutschen Wirtschaft erfüllt die EMA mit diesem besonderen Veranstaltungsformat eine Brückenfunktion zwischen Europa und der arabischen Welt. Um zukünftige Entwicklungen gemeinsam zu
gestalten, müssen wir einen Dialog auf Augenhöhe führen und uns für nachhaltige Lösungen
engagieren.
Es ist mir deshalb eine besondere Freude, Sie im Namen der EMA auf dieser Reise auf die arabische Halbinsel willkommen zu heißen. Mein Dank gilt all denen, die dies ermöglicht haben –
insbesondere dem Bahrain Economic Development Board sowie der TAG-Org, die als Partner

Dear delegates, guests, and participants of the delegates’ trip to the Kingdom of Bahrain and
the United Arab Emirates,
It is my pleasure to welcome you on behalf of the Euro-Mediterranean-Arab Association EMA to
the first Arab-German business exchange organized by the EMA in the Arabian Peninsula. Being a
regional organization for Arab and German CEOs of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs)
the EMA promotes strong economic relations between countries, markets, and institutions of
Europe and the Middle East and Arab Gulf region. Equality, corporate social responsi-bility, and
sustainability serve as major themes of the EMA to establish strategic partnerships in its
international economic and diplomatic network.
Thanks to the quality of their products many German SMEs are world-market leaders in their
respective sectors or for their particular goods. Moreover, the bilateral relations of Germany with
the Kingdom of Bahrain as well as with the United Arab Emirates are excellent. Both countries
maintain a decade-long partnership with Germany in diplomatic, political, and cultural affairs.
Germany and its manifold companies have proven to be an important and reliable trade partner.
Special thanks are due to the Bahrain Economic Development Board as well as to TAG-Org both
of whom have helped organize the program in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi respectively. I would like to

Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry
The Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce & Industry is an autonomous institution of public

RMA Pipeline Equipment ist einer der auf dem Weltmarkt führenden Hersteller von PipelineKomponenten. Das familiengeführte Unternehmen produziert an den baden-württembergischen
Standorten Rheinau und Kehl in Deutschland sowie in Polen, Russland und dem Königreich
Bahrain. Dort wurde 2012 eine 6.000m² große Produktionsanlage eröffnet mit dem Zweck neue
Märkte im Mittleren Osten sowie Asien zu erschließen.

APM Terminals Bahrain operates Khalifa Bin Salman Port and is a multi-purpose facility for
domestic cargo, cruise traffic, and a trans-shipment hub for the growing Gulf shipping market.
The port is 15 meters deep, with a total capacity of 1,000,000 TEU, and has an average clearance
time of 7 hours per container.

Tamkeen is the labor fund in Bahrain, a semi-government organization that is responsible for
training Bahrainis to make them the employer’s first choice. Tamkeen is also responsible for
assisting startup businesses and SMEs by providing consultancy services and seed funds,
Tamkeen also assist international companies by training their Bahraini staff and offering subsidies

Abu Dhabi Global Market (ADGM) wurde 2013 als fünfte Freihandelszone in Abu Dhabi
gegründet. Die Freihandelszone ist regional auf die Insel Al Maryah beschränkt und wurde
errichtet, um ausländische Direktinvestitionen nach Abu Dhabi zu ziehen und sich dem
internationalen Finanzmarkt ohne Beschränkungen, aber nach internationalem Recht, zu öffnen.
Das hat für Geldgeber die Vorteile, dass sie keine Steuern an Abu Dhabi entrichten müssen, ihr
