Allied soldiers and resistance fighters from the
Allied soldiers and resistance fighters from the Nuremberg-Fürth area during WW2 The following list is supposed to be both a memorial for the men and women from our region who actively fought the Axis Powers and an appeal to our visitors to add more information detailing the biographies of those already mentioned or contribute new names. To our knowledge this is the first effort to compile such a roll of honor for Allied soldiers and resistance fighters who originated from a specific area in Germany before their expulsion by the Nazis. Their walks of life were intertwined in multiple ways as relatives, schoolmates, friends, refugees and eventually servicemen united in the aim to overthrow murderous regimes. We want to thank Mr. Frank A. Harris, the founder and mastermind of the Nuremberg-Fürth Survivors’ Group for his support of the project by correspondence and making available to us the back-issues of the group’s newsletter as a most valuable source. We are also indebted to the participants in our survey of February 2012 among Nuremberg-Fürth families who shared with us biographical data and photographs. In January 2014 we added a separate list at the end of the file of emigrants who do not fit the roster for being no Nuremberg-Fürthers or served in the forces of non-Allied countries in order to record also this information we got in the course of our research. rijo List of names Columns: 1 consecutive number 2 name 3 place of birth (FÜ = Fürth, N = Nuremberg) 4 served in the armed forces of: AUS = Australia, CAN = Canada, FRA = France, NL = Netherlands, SU = Soviet Union, UK = United Kingdom including Palestine, USA 5 remarks (K.I.A. = Killed In Action) 2 1 1. 2 3 Alden, Harry (Arnstein, Hans) FÜ 4 5 USA Harry Alden 2.
