Walking in Madeira
NEW EDITION
WALKING IN MADEIRA
INFORMATION
The volcanic islands of Madeira and Porto Santo
bask in sunny solitude in the Atlantic Ocean, far
removed from the coasts of Europe and Africa.
Long popular for relaxing holidays, today they
also attract more adventurous travellers keen to
discover a great variety of walks.
This guidebook contains a wealth of routes,
some as yet little known, stretching from sea
level to the highest mountain peaks. The routes
explore the awesome cliff coastline, the level
‘levada’ paths and the dense laurisilva ‘cloud
forest’ and follow stone-built traverses from peak
to peak in the high mountains.
The new edition takes account of sweeping
changes around the modern Madeira, including
the new network of underground road tunnels
that offer rapid access to all parts of the island.
• A comprehensive introduction to Madeira and
Porto Santo
• Lavishly illustrated with photographs of every
walking route and full-colour mapping
• 60 routes, including both old favourites and
newly-waymarked walks
