WELCOME SPEECH
Knowledge and innovation are the foundation for sustainability in
Bremen‘s economy. Particularly in light of highly dynamic changes
in business and working processes, triggered by the increasing
digitalization of the economy, the increase of innovation capacity
presents an important challenge for companies in maintaining
and developing their competitive advantage.
People are the center of the innovation process, daring something
new with courage, creativity and self-initiative. The fundamental
mechanism of transferring ideas beyond the thought process
and thus, a functional transition from college into industry and
commerce. Bremen has not only a network of brilliant scientific
institutions and research facilities at its disposal, but is a city of
talent with a large reservoir of highly educated young people.
Janina Marahrens-Hashagen
Vizepräses Handelskammer Bremen
Jacobs University Bremen, seen as a talent pool for both the
German and particularly Bremen’s economy, can look back on a
successful development. Through the „Jacobs Career Fair“ companies from Bremen will have an outstanding platform to become
acquainted with international talent. Companies of the most
diverse branches have the possibility to get to know qualified
professions and motivated young academics. Students will come
into contact with potential employers and learn about the diverse
requirements, which are essential for an entrance into the job
market.
The „Jacobs Career Fair“ is an excellent opportunity for young
graduates as well as company representatives. Both parties will
enjoy mutual benefits by meeting new contacts and exchanging
information about common future prospects. On this note, I wish
all participants of the „Jacobs Career Fair“ interesting and beneficial discussions and new contacts.

WELCOME SPEECH
Dear Sir or Madam,
Inspiration incites innovation. Jacobs University is the place where
you’ll find it.
It is not without reason that our motto is: Inspiration is a place! Active
engagement in research and exceptional hands-on experience in realworld work environments is a matter of course for us. From the very first
day of their first semester, our students find themselves working in stateof-the-art laboratories. Over the course of their studies, they participate
in several internships lasting many months that are in strong, often
internationally-operated companies. They develop their own networks
and learn early to apply their knowledge within an economic framework.
Our approach to research is just as inspiring: In the search for
solutions to global problems of the 21st century, strict boundaries
between academic disciplines are no longer appropriate. At Jacobs
University, we’ve abandoned these and instead have honed in on
three focus areas of tremendous societal relevance. Through a transdisciplinary education, our students are equipped with the necessary
core competencies to face the challenges of a constantly changing
global economy, and to flourish on the international job market.
Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katja Windt
President Jacobs University Bremen
Our campus also offers a wealth of inspiration. Students and teachers
from more than 100 nations come together – to work, to live and to share
their interests alongside one another. An enriched knowledge of different languages and international and intercultural expertise are gained
not only through books, but by living and experiencing it on a daily basis.
Our graduates are game-changers. With broad, yet solid knowledge,
paired with social and intercultural competencies, they see challenges and actively engage in solving them. As independent, involved
and responsible problem solvers, our graduates are just as much in
demand in renowned regional and international businesses, as in
societal and political institutions.
See for yourself and get to know us and our students – at the Jacobs
Career Fair. Find the employees with whom you will want to shape the
future of your company. We look forward to meeting you.
Best regards,
Katja Windt

“I studied Earth and Space Sciences
and Integrated Environmental
Studies at JUB and what drove me
to start ACSK Clothing is the feeling
of satisfaction I get from making
something people will end up
using every day. Designing something on a computer
screen and then seeing it come alive after months of
prototyping with suppliers is an absolutely amazing
feeling. Designing and developing products from
scratch for our customers also gives me the ability to
apply what I learned at JUB and now at Yale to design
to the greatest possible extent environmentally be
nign products so I can make my small contribution
towards preserving our natural environment.”
“A computer science PhD, a cognitive systems and
processes PhD and a project engineering doctorate
from three different countries are a great foundation
for diversity in the business world, which is some
thing that is fostered at Jacobs daily.“

“I am Kent Bridgewater, a member
of the Class of 2004 and majored in
ISS. My machine building start up
is called BRIGE. BRIGE stands for a
hygienic revolution in the surface
technology industry. Together with
Sven Simeitis, my partner, we developed a high tech
cleaning system to clean conveyor systems in produc
tion facilities. I truly enjoy walking on this new BRIGE
path. I am truly blessed to find how many take interest
in BRIGE and join me on my road into the future.”
“My name is Tom Suberg and I am the co-founder and
CEO of Crowdstars. I graduated from Jacobs in 2014
and majored in International Logistics Management
and Engineering. I decided
to found my own company
right after graduating,
because I did not want to
get stuck in corporate
structures while I am still
young and creative.”
“I studied EECS at Jacobs Univer

perfect choice for an Entrepreneu
rial career. I started my 3rd com

the year. Diving into the unknown
to solve problems and drive
change is why I love doing this!”

Meet with Jacobs Alumni Startup companies
at their booth in East Wing or during their presentations.
“I started my first company MCorp
on my 20th birthday during my
final year at Jacobs, where I studied
Physics. Already prior and during
my studies, I have been working on
tech projects, and I wanted to give
it a try after leaving Jacobs. We focus on building
automation technology, esp. in software development
and deployment, because it is something I needed
to make my work easier and more efficient and I knew
others could find equally useful.”
“We are Flavia and Alex and we
founded Take Off Labs in 2011, right
after graduating from Jacobs Uni
versity, where we majored in EECS
and CS, respectively. Initially, we
founded the company to have a le
gal structure for our freelance work,
but in time the offered services diversified – we conti
nue to help startups with their scaling needs, but also
have our own suite of Golf software products success
fully used globally by tens of thousands of golfers.”

The Alfred Wegener Institute carries out research in the Arctic
and Antarctic as well as in the high and mid latitude oceans.
The institute coordinates German polar research and makes
important infrastructure, e.g. the research icebreaker Polarstern
and research stations in the Arctic and Antarctic available to
national and international science.
The Institute‘s research mission is to improve our understanding
of ocean-ice-atmosphere interactions, the animal and plant kingdoms of the Arctic and Antarctic, and the evolution of the polar
continents and seas. Given the major role played by these regions
within the earth‘s climate system, global change is a central
focus of the research effort at AWI. AWI collaborates in numerous
international research programmes and maintains close contacts
with many universities and institutes in Europe and farther
afield. It sends scientists to other institutes throughout the world,
to other research ships and stations, and invites scientists from
other nations to cruises aboard the Polarstern, as well as to
Bremerhaven and Potsdam. About a quarter of those participating
in Polarstern expeditions are scientists from abroad.

(In development)
Who we are:
BRIGE is a machine building and service start up, founded by
Kent Bridgewater, alumnus class of 2004, and Sven Simeitis from
TU Darmstadt.
Development stage:
We are currently in the prototype phase; working as Bridgewater
Simeitis GbR. Starting in March 2016 we are going public as
BRIGE GmbH with our headquarters in Hamburg-Harburg.
What we do:
We clean as a service and sell a high tech cleaning system for
overhead conveyor chains used in production facilities
In more detail:
Parts, which need coating, require special protection from debris
falling from overhead conveyers, such as widely used Power &
Free systems. Contaminated parts are rejected during the produc
tion process and create unnecessary costs. This risk can now
be eliminated using the innovative high pressure cleaning system
from BRIGE GmbH. The cleaning system is directly attached
to the conveyor chain. Utilizing its intelligent automatic controls
it cleans and dries the conveyor chain in one simple step. It even
operates during active production. In addition, the system is
ecologically engineered to save energy and recycles the water
used for cleaning.
CONTACT
Cleaning the conveyor chain continuously also prevents rupture
of the chain.

MCorp is a technology company focused on building automation
technology. Our first two products are Koso and Minato. Koso
helps programmers and non-programmers to create cloud-based
software applications, which can range from simple information
management systems to sophisticated real-time applications.
Minato is the counter-part to this: It is a simple, hassle-free solution to run these (and other) applications on a cluster of servers
in the cloud or on local servers, without having to manage and
administrate these servers and applications directly. Minato also
handles auto-scaling of the applications and servers to thousands
of machines and millions of users as well as redundant, encrypted
backups to reduce or even eliminate the workload of technical
administration. We are currently starting trials with several
organizations and hope to expand to more platforms soon. We are
also working on additional cloud services built on top of these two
products to offer more end-user applications. In the near future,
Koso will become freely available to young start-ups for an initial
time period to help them jump-start their company without the
financial burden. We will also offer online and offline workshops to
teach how to use these tools to build applications.
Global Graduate Marketing is a digital marketing agency helping
universities attract global talent in the 21st century. We specialise
in social media and online marketing, advertising in journals and
at conferences and crafting online and social media presences to
ensure universities can reach the right students for their programs
worldwide. We are working with universities on several continents
and with partner organisations and freelancers worldwide to
achieve this. Our approach differs from other agencies in the quick
iterations we run through. We create initial hypotheses on which
marketing channels and which messaging can potentialy work best,
splot-test them in parallel, measure their effectiveness and evaluate
the results shortly after to decide on the best approach. This is
repeated in weekly or bi-weekly cycles enabling us to increase the
efficiency of our marketing methods rapidly. Apart from this, we also
offer strategic consulting, web design and development services to
our clients to help them improve their positioning on the web.

care of the needs, concerns and rights of children.
Our vision is that each child grows up in a family with love,
respect and security.
Following this vision 555 SOS children’s villages have been
built up in more than 130 counties. In many children’s villages,
additional facilities as nurseries, schools and medical centers
provide services also to children and families in the neighborhood.
Currently SOS Children’s Villages worldwide are in charge of
1,5 million children, youth and families.
Through education, medical support and self-help projects of the
SOS Family Strengthening programs the organization contributes
in poor countries significantly to the sustainable development
of communities and society. Education is in the focus of our
worldwide commitment, as education is the basis for social and
economic development. Through education children and youth get
the chance to live a self-determined life.
CONTACT
When we speak about education we mean the holistic development of knowledge as well as the understanding and application
of this knowledge. And we also mean corresponding values,
competencies and thus the shaping of identity. Education is both
outcomes of schooling and informal learning interconnected
with family and social life within a given context and community.

StatusToday uses patent-pending Artificial Intelligence methods
to protect companies against insider threat and data breaches.
We do this using a unique understanding of human behavior in big
data and corporate systems.
StatusToday was founded by ex-Microsoft and ex-Just-Eat
entrepreneurs who decided to quit their corporate positions to
tackle the growing threat of cybercrime. Using a unique approach
to handling human behavior and psychology within big data,
StatusToday is help businesses flag a variety of unusual behavior
to prevent large scale data breach and insider threat attacks.
Incidents that happened at Sony, Ashley Madison, Target and
even NSA could have been better managed had there been a more
efficient way to understand behavior data. At StatusToday, we
solve that in an attempt to protect user information while saving
companies millions.
The company is backed by leading global investors who have
backed multi-billion dollar companies in the past and has wellknown names on its advisory board. Most recently, the company
was awarded the distinction of being one of UK’s Top 10 AI Companies to watch out by Business Insider.
