The reduction of the bearing operating
temperature is an important aspect for the
optimization of bearing arrangements and
therefore of machine tools as a whole. Low
temperatures stand for operational reliability and
enhanced precision. At the same time they
enable speed increases. Apart from suitable
materials and lubricants, the channeling of the
lubricant is a relevant factor for reducing the
friction inside the bearing, particularly in highspeed applications. This becomes apparent when
considering the enormous temperature
reductions that can be achieved with the new
FAG Low Temperature bearings. Their new
internal design is based on the realization that
the contact area where the cage is guided,
strongly gains in importance with increasing
speeds.
FAG Low Temperature spindle bearings operate
at up to 10 % lower temperatures, achieved
through corresponding adjustments of cage and
channeling of the lubricant. Conversely this new
bearing generation opens up the potential for
speed increases of up to 10%. The operating
reliability of the bearings increases
correspondingly; machinery downtime and
system costs are reduced.
The advantages of the new internal TX-cage
design are so convincing that all FAG spindle
bearings will in the future be offered in this new
generation, irrespective of design and series. As
in the past with the introduction of sealed
bearings or X-life ultra bearings, FAG once again
sets a new standard for the machine tool
industry.

The new TX cage design will become
the standard for all FAG spindle bearing
series and configurations.
Consequently there will be a change in
the current nomenclature ("T" becomes
"TX" starting from June 1st, 2006).
