Jerusalem experienced great defeat through the Babylonians. The temple and city walls were destroyed;
the young and strong men as well as the young and beautiful women were taken to Babylon. Only the old
and weak people were left in Jerusalem. These are definitively very bad prospects for the future!
In this situation God asks the prophet Micah the prophetic questions: “have you no king?” (Micah 4:9) and
in the following chapters he tells about Jesus Christ their saviour and king.
Theological “side study” on the topic prophets:
Micah 5 prophetically points toward Jesus and his birth in Bethlehem. This passage is quoted in Matthew
2:5&6.
If we are confronted with such challenges (defeat, frustration, disappointment, etc.) we also are asked the
same questions: “have you no king?”
The answer is still the same: Christ in you, the hope of glory. Colossians 1:27
 Which of the topics that were mentioned fits best to your current situation, why?
- Success
- Disappointments
- Temptations
- Frustrations
- Defeats
- ... (others)
APPLICATION
Now take enough time to find biblical truths about Jesus which suit your situation very well.
Concordances or Bible programmes like Bibleserver.com can be helpful.
Also search for some Bible verses which enrich your life situation outside of the small group, during the
week.
In addition to this, or if you are not used to using the concordance, you can watch the following clip. Each
person should take the characteristics which fit best to his situation.
Clip “MY KING”:

Support each other with Bible verses and stories so that you can discover even more who Jesus Christ is
in YOU. Search your identity in Christ.
PRAYER
As a conclusion each person makes an answer note. Write the Bible verses and keywords which speak
truth into your “problems”.
Now each person can use these truths in a personal prayer.

Preparation:
Test your goals:
(1) The goal of the small groups is to help people strengthen their personal relationship with Jesus and to live in real
fellowship with one another.
(2) Which people in my small group do I encourage to be leaders? Which opportunities to practice do I provide for
them?
(3) What goal do I set for the small group meeting?
Apply these three values to your small group:
Community, experiencing God, multiplication (internal and external growth).
Consider how these three values are put into practice in the next small group meeting.
Pray for your small group:
- Pray for your members and their concerns.
- Pray that each has an encounter with God and that you may all achieve your goals together.
- Consciously submit yourself under God’s leadership so that the evening may take place
according to His will.
Plan your small group meeting:
- Consider what you will delegate (administration, hospitality/food, prayer, worship, input …).
- All should be informed where and when the meeting is taking place. Communication is a matter
Of leadership!
Count on God’s presence:
“For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” Matthew 18:20
