I hope to see you all there so we can have a really Happy Christmas Celebration. Once again we had a very successful Oktoberfest and all the volunteers and committee members made this possible. My personal ‘Thank you all’. It is just another example of a good relationship with our Volunteers and Committee. Marlene Porzig Looking forward to 2016, we hope for a very full and interesting year with more involvements of different functions in the club. The Dutch Community will use our rooms for their weekly and annual activities. Lets make them feel welcome and assist wherever we can. They are losing their Club house and for many it is a heart breaking experience to be suddenly uprooted. The solution is temporary so until they have found a new place they will use our rooms. This has been well planned so that the RDC group activities will continue as before. Some of our Members have been ill in the last few months and I hope that they will recover soon. For the coming “Year 2016,” special wishes go to each member and your families; wishing you a healthy and Happy New Year. My special thanks also to each one of you, for the support you give to the club. Marlene Porzig Präsidentin Frühschoppen - All Welcome! We don't have a Soul Night in January, so our first for 2016 will be held on Friday 5th February, followed by Friday 4th March. We would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas and send our best wishes for 2016. Marilyn & Dave, Soul Source Music 10 OKTOBERFEST FAMILY DAY W ell over 250 people attended the Club's annual Oktoberfest Family Day. It was wonderful to see so many families and young people take part in the festivities. It really was all about the children. Thank you to the Eagle Eye Shooting Group for organising balloons and goody bags for all, as well as giving the older ones a chance to try their luck at the shooting gallery. The Model Railway exhibition was also very popular, giving both young and old a look at the amazing fully functioning miniature village and railway. The Edelweiss Dancers put on a great display of Schuhplatter and Bell Ringing, while music provided by Step Back kept the dance floor full of enthusiastic dancers bopping away to popular German songs. The stein holding competition was also popular with the children, with everyone receiving a free cool drink for their efforts. All in all it was a successful day, well done to the Committee and Volunteers who made it all possible. 11 LIVE - BAND DANCES DECEMBER Entry: Members $10 Guest $12 7:00pm—11:00pm Kitchen and Bar open: 6:30pm Saturdays Friday, 4th December MOTOWN night Saturday, 5th December Dance with Step Back Saturday, 12th December Dance with the Alpen Duo Members Christmas Evening Saturday, 19th December with Young Once Saturday, 26th December CLUB CLOSED NEW YEAR’S EVE Saturday, 31st December Masquerade Ball with the Alpen Duo Open ‘til 1 am January 2016 Re-open Tuesday CLUB CLOSED 2nd February 2016 Carnival with the Guggeburras Saturday 6th February With Step Back Children’s Carnival with Sunday 7th February the Guggeburras 12 Successful start to Sunday Musician Get Together There was a great turnout for the first Musician Get Together on Sunday November 8. Some were a bit rusty in the beginning, but by the end of the evening were playing some decent tunes. Keep up the good work guys. Don’t forget, if you own an instrument and would like to get together for a regular jam session on a Sunday afternoon from 5pm onwards, contact Reinhard on 0487 312 445 for more details. Dutch Club End of Month Drinks Come join us on the last Friday of every month for an evening with a Dutch flavour. The Dutch Club Neerlandia have traditionally held these at their old club premises. However with the temporary move to the RDC, our club will be hosting these evenings in 2016 with the first night kicking off on February 26, 2016, from 5:30 to 9:30pm. Rüdi our Chef will be including some traditional Dutch meals on the menu and Dave our Cellarmaster will organise for some traditional Dutch drinks to be available at the bar. 13 I ch (Kontrabass) suche eine(n) Pianistin/en und Saenger/in zwecks Gruendung einer Band, die Lieder aus der UFA Kino-Zeit (Mitte 20er bis 60er Jahre) spielt. We hope to start our championship on the 18th of November. I know this is a little late in the making but there were circumstances out of my control. Any club member is welcome to take part in this once a year competition. Your Ewald Froend, Group Leader 14 SKAT GROUP I have been away for 4 months and no Skat was played for the last 3 months! We therefore have no results available. Our monthly Preisskat will resume on the 8th November at 1pm (13h00). Manfred Hoppe Pool Group I t is with much regret I must inform all our members that Ken Wellmann has decided that the time has come to hang up his boots and retire as our Group Leader. On behalf of our members I take this opportunity to thank Ken for his many years of service he has put into the snooker group and he will be greatly missed. As your Captain I will fill in for Ken until the AGM where we can elect a new leader. Congratulations to Sanjay on successfully defending his title in our Singles Championship with Mario runner up and Josko third. We done. It was a hard fought completion. I look forward to seeing all our members at our Christmas Dinner at the Club on the evening of Friday the 11th of December. Prost, Your Captain, Mario 15 Heimat Choir D uring the last few months we have had a diminished number of singers due to holidays and sickness. Our last sing-a-long was on Saturday 7th of November. We were 15 singers and did manage to present two songs in harmony and several sing-a-long songs. We are now in the period of practising for the Christmas celebration on Saturday 19th of December. The choir will sing three songs in harmony and Christmas Carols for everyone to join in. I would like to wish all club members a happy and blessed Christmas and good health for the coming year. My special thanks to you all for the support you gave us throughout the year. To all Choir Members a Happy Christmas and a healthy New Year and special thanks for your dedication and loyalty to the Choir. To Dorothea our Conductor and pianist, many thanks for all you do for us and a Happy Christmas Season. A photo when the Oktoberfest spectators had plenty of room to move about. This year we had a record number of complimentary and generous visitors. Another Oktoberfest marathon has passed. Our very hard work – placing some 700+ people on the street and in the steam loco museum, placing some 100+ lanterns in the new town, roads, and railway areas, making the roundhouse a museum with turntable and an engine moving, - was obviously appreciated by the record number of visitors who very generously donated to aid us in undertaking next year’s projects. Their enthusiastic compliments will certainly 18 make us strive even more to make the 2016 Oktoberfest another successful event. Thank you visitors. As usual our group will go in recession at approximately the same time as the Rhein-Donau Club festive season recession: Friday 15/12/2015 last meeting – Friday 12/2/2016 first meeting. We wish you all the best for the forthcoming festive season. Ed RdeG TABLE TENNIS GROUP Dear Members, Seeing that I have been away for 18 days to Caloundra and to Veteran’s Table Tennis at Mackay I cannot report on that period. Unfortunately I didn't win a Medal. More importantly though I participated and it was nice to meet up with everyone I knew. The wind-up dinner and dance was an excellent evening. I had time to go on a cruise to Mooloolaba. We stopped to feed the Pelicans, Cormorants and Bream and saw Steve Irwin’s Holiday Mansion. Visited a sugar Refinery and was offered liqueurs (no), relishes (yes) and Fairy Floss (no). While visiting Mackay I went twice to the Mackay Table Tennis Centre which had 10 tables. While visiting my friend in Mackay I saw the Coal Refinery and while in Caloundra I saw countless ships that were going there. The villa where we stayed was near the sea and a popular spot for joggers, runners and dogs. 22 members went to the Oktoberfest while I was away. We will be closing down on 15th December and will reopen on the 2nd February 2016. I wish all members a Happy Festive Season. Kind regards, Joyce Williams, Group Leader 19 Edelweiss Dance Group W ell, the year is almost at an end. Where did the time go? The dance group has, as per usual, had a very busy October. It was a great month for the club and certainly kept us on our toes. Well done to the RDC committee and other members who worked very hard to make the Oktoberfest memorable and successful. The highlights this year included the Volkstanzfest in Adelaide and the 40th Anniversary of our Alpengaudi. I would like to acknowledge some longstanding members in our group, Dieter and Sieglinde who began with the original dance group, Hans who celebrated his 40 years with the group as well as Susan. Peter and Karen were made honorary members. Certificates were presented to a number of other members celebrating various milestones. Sadly, we farewelled one of our members this year, Franz. He will be remembered fondly by all of us for his good humour and love of life. Our group has expanded quite a lot, with lots of new little Schuhplattlers: William, Stefan and Koby. Thank goodness that we also have one new little girl Matilda. Guess the boys will be fighting over her. Tim's lovely wife, Jacqui, has joined us and also a strapping young Bavarian, Richard. Our cup overfloweth. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to the group. You have put a lot of time, effort (sweat) and energy into making the group successful. I know that many of you give up private things to ensure the group can honour commitments. This does not go unnoticed. Wishing you all a beautiful Christmas with your loved ones and may 2016 see your wishes fulfilled. Happiness and good health to us all! Julianne Pulver, Group Leader 20 Eagle Eye Air Rifle Group H i Shooters We have the Oktoberfest behind us for another 12 months. I would like to thank all our members who helped at the Range and worked very hard, and also the ones that helped with the Children on the last Sunday Family Day. We had our Dance also in November so it has been a very busy time. We are having our Christmas breakup party on the 11th of December. I would like to Wish Everyone A Merry Christmas and A Happy and healthy New Year and higher scores for 2016. Sophia Bayley, Groupleader 21 WA Mandolin Orchestra As mentioned in the last edition we will by now have held our end of year concert on the 21st of Nov. The venue was the Church of Resurrection, Shenton Rd, Swanbourne a light and resonate performance space. The Orchestra was joined in three of the nine piece program by renowned soprano soloist Sara Macliver, who has performed with most of Australia's main Symphony Orchestras in every state and New Zealand. The final 4 movement piece, The Caucasian Calk Circle Suite, written by our own Robert Schulz with text by Bertolt Brecht and sung by Sara, was a triumphant end to the concert and the year. Our end of year windup will be held in the Edelweiss Room in place of our normal rehearsal on the 9th of Dec. Food and drink will of course be consumed. Anyone wishing to attend will be entertained by performances from within the Orchestra as members show their hidden talents through solos, duos and multimember groups. Next year big things are afoot, it being the 40th anniversary of our existence. There will be performances in town halls, and the much awaited launch of a book documenting our few trials and many triumphs over those four decades.. Right. Now back to practice. Harry Baker 22 I s a multilingual music and dance school in Perth offering singing, music and movement classes in various languages (English, German, Mandarin, Polish and Spanish) for children age 0 to 7 years old. Our classes provide an excellent opportunity for children to have contact with another language. We sing songs, play music games, learn the basic steps to different dances from around the world and learn to play different Orff instruments. But above all we want our students to have a lot of fun and additionally learn and improve a different language. Children discover rhythm, dynamics and tempo of a wide range of music genres from around the world. In addition we teach our little students some simple steps and dance movements as visual interpretations of the songs they listen to. Creative exercises and small craft projects are also part of the program. In older groups children start learning the tonic sol-fa, music notes and start playing at glockenspiel and recorder. At LaLeLu Perth we also focus on classical music and composers from different eras and countries as well as getting to know orchestral instruments. Leading through the classical to the modern orchestral music we demonstrate the children how the music has developed over time. On the other hand we cover traditional themes from different cultures as part of our program. Since January 2015 LaLeLu Perth offers the following classes at RheinDonau Club: German, English, bilingual English-German. Mandarin and Spanish classes will start soon. For more information or to enrol, please visit www.LaLeLu-Perth.com. Contact person: Magda 0414 738 914. I am very proud of my team and especially grateful to Hans Peter and Karola, who came all the way from Berlin to help me. (although peeling up to 160 Kg Potatoes on my Terrace with a Gin &Tonic and the sun setting over the Ocean does not seem such a hard task to me.) But their overall support was essential to the smooth operation of the kitchen. Thank you Hans Peter & Karola, and if they remember the Family day, I am sure they cannot wait to be back in a hurry! Apropos the family day, it was one of the biggest by all accounts and was testing all of us, regardless if we were Bar or Kitchen staff. It was a great Success! Now we will embark on the Christmas season and asking you to book your function early so that we can provide you with the best the kitchen has to offer. In the meantime I try to find my bearings again and relax to recover from long days and short nights. I, Rudi and my staff sending all of you "Season Greetings" and wishing you a healthy and prosperous 2016.
