HOCHTIEF has strengthened its presence on the Polish market and has merged four
companies where it had its holdings – HOCHTIEF Polska Sp. z o.o., Budokor S.A.,
KPIS-Cracovia S.A., and POZ-Building Sp. z o.o. The process has resulted in the
establishment of one company – HOCHTIEF Polska Sp. z o.o. – which, through operation
branches from three companies, has covered the territory of the whole country with its
activities.
"With this move, we want to be in an even better position to meet the requirements of the
Polish market and the growing needs of our clients for a broad spectrum of services",
explains Uwe Wiltfang, Chairman of the Management Board of HOCHTIEF Polska.
HOCHTIEF has been steadily expanding its presence in Poland since the early 90s. The first
step was taken in 1990 when the company initiated cooperation with Budokor to construct
Okecie International Airport in Warsaw. As general contractor, HOCHTIEF not only
constructed the passenger terminal, the catering facilities and the cargo terminal, it also
arranged all the financing for the project.
HOCHTIEF acquired a stake in Budokor in 1993, in POZ-Building two years later and in
KPIS-Cracovia in 1996 – which was also the year when HOCHTIEF Polska was founded.
"Developments show that Poland is an important growth market for us, and it is one that has
so far definitely fulfilled our expectations", emphasizes Dr. Hans-Peter Keitel, Chairman of
the HOCHTIEF Executive Board.
In 1999, the companies that now make up HOCHTIEF Polska generated a total work-done
volume of almost PLN 830 million.
The completion of the consolidation process will give HOCHTIEF Polska a sharper
competitive edge, above all through the ability to draw more fully on international experience
and advanced expertise. It also provides access to the kind of financing that is needed when
bidding for major contracts. In addition, there will be benefits from cost-cutting.
The merger has also resulted in some organizational changes. With just one Management
Board, all operations can now be coordinated better and streamlined more effectively. Each
of the three constituent companies will continue its present activities, with project teams
remaining the basic operative unit.
