$370 Million Melbourne Airport win for
Leighton Contractors
Leighton Contractors Pty Ltd has secured a $370 million contract for the construction of an
integrated transport facility and a new airline terminal for Australian Pacific Airports
(Melbourne) Pty Ltd (Melbourne Airport), as part of a capacity upgrade for Melbourne Airport.
Leighton Contractors’ delivery of the transport facility includes construction of a seven storey
car park, elevated access roads and ramps, an underground service tunnel, electrical
substation and ancillary infrastructure.
Leighton Contractors will deliver the new Terminal 4 in a Joint Venture with its subsidiary
Broad Construction. The works include baggage handling and re-claim facilities, check-in
kiosks and associated infrastructure, staff amenities, retail areas and connections to existing
concourses.
Leighton Holdings Chief Executive Officer, Hamish Tyrwhitt, said: “We are pleased to be part
of Melbourne Airport’s upgrade. This award demonstrates the Leighton Group’s strength in
the civil infrastructure and commercial building markets, and the ability of our companies to
collaborate, leveraging their scale and range of core competencies to deliver innovative
solutions and value for clients.”
Leighton Contractors Managing Director, Craig Laslett, said: “We are proud to play a key part
in the upgrade, supporting the airport’s growing role as an important transport hub in
Australia. We look forward to working with Melbourne Airport to deliver a world class terminal
that enhances our client’s operations and their customers’ experience.
“The award recognises our expertise in safely delivering complex and large scale
infrastructure projects within operating facilities and Broad’s successful delivery of upgrade
works at Perth Airport including the new Terminal 2 earlier this year.”
Works are scheduled to commence in October with completion due in 2015.
