„Kaffee ist nach Erdöl der weltweit
wichtigste Exportrohstoff. Auf der ganzen
Welt leben über 100 Millionen Menschen
von der Produktion, Verarbeitung und dem
Vertrieb von Kaffee. Doch obwohl Kaffee
das Lieblings-Heißgetränk der Deutschen ist
und pro Kopf im Jahr 2008 148 Liter
getrunken wurden, werden die Produzenten
im Süden davon nicht reich.“

Kaffee - viele Namen für ein und dasselbe
Getränk. Für die einen ist ein guter Kaffee
der gelungene Einstieg in den neuen Tag, für
andere der Anlass für eine kleine Zeremonie
im Kreis der Nachbarn, für wieder andere
bedeutet er vor allem harte Arbeit im Kampf
ums Überleben.
Kaffee kommt aus Yemen, heißt es in einem
Lied aus der Türkei. Kaum ein Freund des
schwarzen Getränks hat je vom Königreich
Kaffa gehört, jenem untergegangenen Reich
im Süden des heutigen Äthiopien, dem wir
den Kaffee verdanken. Von hier gelangte er
ins nördliche abessinische Hochland, nach
Yemen, weiter in die Türkei, von wo aus er
dann seinen Siegeszug um die ganze Welt
antrat.
Etliche Kaffee-Lieder existieren in den
Kaffee produzierenden Ländern im Süden
und wahrscheinlich genau so viele in den
konsumierenden Ländern des Nordens. Eine
kleine Auswahl davon hat die Gruppe
LaméBora für die vorliegende CD
zusammengestellt.
LaméBora, das sind MusikerInnen aus
verschiedenen Teilen der Welt, die sich auf
Initiative von Pit Budde für dieses Projekt
zusammengetan haben; sie kommen aus
Angola, Äthiopien, Bolivien, Deutschland,
Ulla Struck voc
Myke Tilasi voc
Gifford Urquizo Spanish Guitar
Tom Wegner Piano, Guitar
Kolumbien, Palästina, Portugal, der Türkei
und Zambia. Sie haben Lieder ihrer Heimat
mitgebracht: Da ist die Aufforderung zur
gemeinsamen Kaffee Zeremonie aus
Äthiopien; der Arbeitsgesang aus Angola;
die bittere Klage der Kinder der Sklaven, die
noch heute die Plantagen bestellen; der Indio
Gesang zur Fiesta del Cafelito; das Lied des
Flüchtlings, der sich im Cafe Aman seiner
Trauer hingibt, das Frauen singen beim
Sortieren der Kaffeebohnen am Fließband.
Afrikanische, orientalische, europäische,
latein- und nordamerika-nische Musiken,
Instrumente und Melodien verbinden sich zu
einem musikalischen Streifzug durch die
Welt des Kaffees und der Cafés.

Coffee has always had romantic resonance. Cowboys and vaqueros crouched by campfires
on tiptoe, squinting into the smoke and cradling a tin cup of range brew. Humphrey Bogart's
droopy eyes peering over a steaming cup of Java in Casablanca. Sensationalistic photos of
beatniks in dark basements, dressed in black reading poetry, listening to jazz and sipping tiny
