in Anlagen zur Aufbereitung des Schleifwassers
und zur Rückführung der Schleif- und Stanzabfälle optimieren heute unsere Fertigungsprozesse.

in response to the experience of the Technical
College of Wood Carving in Brienz and the
practise of professional woodcarvers throughout
the world. We at pfeil are actively concerned
about the environmental impact of our operations.
We use our important resources such as
water, air and energy as efficiently as possible
and minimize their pollution. Investments in

La fabrication des outils pfeil allie les technologies
les plus récentes à la tradition. Notre assortiment
d’outils suisses de qualité, constamment développé et mis à jour, est fabriqué dans nos propres
ateliers. Il est sans cesse complété par de nouveaux produits, mettant à profit les expériences
de sculpteurs du monde entier, avec le concours
de l’école professionnelle de sculpture sur bois
de Brienz. pfeil s’efforce de protéger activement
l’environnement. Les ressources vitales telles
que l’eau, l’air et l’énergie sont exploitées de manière
aussi efficace et conforme que possible aux
exigences écologiques. Des investissements dans
des installations de traitement de l’eau d’affûtage
et de recyclage des déchets d’affûtage et du
poinçonnage visent à optimiser nos procédures de

Die pfeil Messerherstellung baut auf eine alte
Handwerkertradition. Die Firma wurde im
Jahre 1902 als Messerschmiede in Langenthal
gegründet. Der Familienbetrieb wird heute in
der dritten Generation geführt. Zu Beginn wurden
hauptsächlich Berufsmesser und chirurgische
Instrumente hergestellt und nachgeschliffen. Um
1942 wurde mit der Herstellung der ersten
Schnitzlerwerkzeuge begonnen. Die hohe Qualität
der Werkzeuge führte in kurzer Zeit zu grosser
Beliebtheit bei Berufsschnitzlern, aber auch bei
Hobbyschnitzlern und Schulen im In- und Ausland.
The production of pfeil carving tools is based
upon a long tradition of craftsmanship.The company was founded in 1902 in Langenthal, as
a fabricator of cutting tools. Still a family-owned
business, pfeil is today managed by the third
generation. Professional cutting tools and surgical instruments were primarily the first items
which pfeil manufactured. Production of the first
carving tools began in 1942. Within a short
time, the high quality of the tools created a great
following not only among professional carvers,
but also among amateurs and schools in many
countries.
La fabrication de couteaux pfeil se base sur une
ancienne tradition artisanale. La maison a été
fondée en 1902 comme coutellerie à Langenthal.
L’entreprise familiale est actuellement dirigée
par la troisième génération. A ses débuts, elle a
fabriqué et affûté avant tout des couteaux
pour professionnels et des instruments chirurgicaux.
En 1942, elle a lancé la première fabrication
d’outils à sculpter. La haute qualité des outils a
obtenu en peu de temps une grande réputation
auprès des sculpteurs sur bois professionnels,
mais également parmi les sculpteurs amateurs
et les écoles en Suisse et à l’étranger.

Alle pfeil-Werkzeuge werden gebrauchsfertig
geschliffen und abgezogen ausgeliefert. Die
Schneiden sind mit einem Winkel von 17°–25°,
je nach Grösse und Verwendungszweck des
Werkzeuges, geschliffen. Für ein späteres
Nachschleifen der Werkzeuge sind verschiedene
Schleifmaschinen erhältlich. In jedem Fall ist
eine Schleifmaschine mit Wasserkühlung einer
Trockenschleifmaschine vorzuziehen.
Folgende Regeln müssen beim Nachschleifen
beachtet werden:

2 Der Schneidewinkel sollte, je nach dem zu
verarbeitenden Holz, einen Winkel zwischen
17° (weiches Holz) bis zu 25° (hartes Holz)
aufweisen.
3 Bei einem Trockenschliff darf sich der Stahl
an der Schneide nicht gelb, blau oder grau
verfärben, da sonst ein Härteverlust entsteht.
4 Verfärbtes Material muss alles weggeschliffen werden.
5 Für kleine Werkzeuge sollen feine Scheiben
mit Korn 100-120, für grosse Werkzeuge
Scheiben mit Korn 80-100 gewählt werden.
6 Nach dem Abziehen der Schneide mit dem
Arkansasstein oder der Tuchscheibe sollten beim Schnitzen im Holz fein glänzende
Flächen entstehen.
All pfeil tools come sharpened and honed,
ready to use. The bevels are ground to an angle
between 17° and 25° depending upon size and
use of the tool. The tools can be resharpened
using various sharpening machines. In any case,
a grinder with water cooling is preferable to a
dry grinder.

1 Schnitzlerwerkzeuge sollen sorgfältig behandelt werden. Zur Aufbewahrung eignen
sich Rolletuis, Holzkästen oder spezielle
Holzleisten an der Wand.
2 Werkzeuge dürfen nicht auf den Boden fallen oder gegeneinander schlagen. Defekte
Schneiden und Verletzungen können dadurch
vermieden werden.
3 Um einer Korrosion (Rost) vorzubeugen,
müssen die Werkzeuge in einem trockenen
Raum aufbewahrt werden.
4 Bei längerem Nichtgebrauch der Werkzeuge
empfiehlt es sich, die Klingen mit einem dünnen Oel zu schützen.
