Vitaly Silaev COOL TWISTS 2021 RULES Welcome to the world of races! Here is the Cars Game System starter set, for which you will also need assembled car models by our company. Construct a big race circuit from different elements and rush to the finish using special rules for moving and overtaking. Each character has a special ability, while different events can change the whole race in a moment. The starter set includes models of McQueen and Francesco. But when you collect other models from the “Cars” universe, 6 players will be able to take part in the game and try the power of the new characters. Let the race begin! GAME COMPONENTS: 1 6-SIDED DIE 15 SPECIAL ABILITY TOKENS 16 RACE TRACK ELEMENTS 2 CHARACTER MODELS WITH STICKERS 2 CHARACTER CARDS 1 SET UP Before the beginning of the game assemble the models of the “Cars” characters, which are included into this starter set. Follow the assembly instructions and don’t forget to put stickers on your favorite characters. Only complete models can take part in the game. You can use for playing also other characters from this series, which you can buy and assemble separately. Assemble the Race track from the cardboard elements – here the competition will take place. Later you will be able to assemble your track any way you wish, but for you first games use our diagram. After that each player chooses a character and places its model on the Start zone. Divide the Special Ability Tokens into 3 parts of different colors: green (6), yellow (5), and blue (4). Turn all of the tokens face down. Put green tokens facedown on the special field of the game board. Lay out other tokens next to the game board. OBJECT OF THE GAME Make 3 laps on the Race track and be the first to finish. PLAYING THE GAME Players should decide, who will be the first (at random or using other possible methods). The one who appeared to be the latest should not worry, as the sequence of turns doesn’t matter much in this game. Each part of the track, except the Start zone (alias finish), consists of 4 fields, organized in two rows (front and back) and two lines (right and left). The player, who is taking turn, rolls the die and moves the model of his character forward the number of rows equal to the result rolled. Character can move only forward. The player can choose in which line of the row, right or left, his character will end his movement. Other characters don’t hinder movement, but the field where the character ends his movement must be free. If both right and left lines are occupied, the character must stop one row earlier – if here both lines are also occupied, then one more row earlier, etc. The player is not allowed: - To move the character the number of rows less than the roll of the die, if at least one line of the ending row is free. - To move the character “sidewards”: from left line to the right, or right to left. The character must always move forward. - The Start zone consists of only one big field, where any number of characters may stay simultaneously. NEW LAP After any character has finished his first lap (this means the character has ended his movement in a Start zone or has passed it through), put the yellow Special Ability tokens on the corresponding fields of the track. After any character has finished his second lap, put the blue Special Ability tokens. All tokens must be placed face down. 2 BONUS AND PENALTY FIELDS Token If a character ends his movement on a field with a token, the player who controls this character takes the token (without revealing it). He can use this token once before the end of the game. After using a token is removed from the game. The character who is the first on the track cannot take tokens, but can stop on the fields with tokens. Acceleration If a character ends his movement on such filed, it must take an additional turn. Oil Stain If a character ends his movement on such filed, he must skip his next turn. SPECIAL ABILITY TOKENS The player may use the tokens he has taken during the race, but only once during his turn. CHARACTERS’ ABILITIES Each character is unique and has its own abilities for the races. See the detailed description of each special ability at the end of this rule book. FINISH After the third lap is over, the winner is determined. The player who is the first to move his character to the Start zone or farther, is declared the winner. The model of the winner is removed from the game, and other participants can continue the race to determine the second and third places. After that the game is over. RACING TEAM When you collect other characters, you can use them as members of your racing team. It’s better if every competing team has an equal number of members. You must choose one character who will be the racer; other characters will support him. You should also choose a tactic, a mechanic, and a fan. For example, if two players are playing, each player can take one supporting character into his team (new 3 characters are sold separately) and assign him any of the 3 roles. If you have other cars from our series, you can create a team from any number of supporting characters who will help the racer during the race. Supporting characters are placed on their corresponding Character cards, for everybody to see which role does each of them play. On a Character card near each icon a number of one characteristic (tactic, mechanic and fan) is shown. Tactic If you end your movement on a field that is occupied by another character, you can try to overtake him. This is possible only if the row in front of your opponent has at least one free field. Roll the die: if the result is equal to the number shown on the card of the tactic character, the overtake is successful, and your character may end his movement in the row in front of the opponent instead of stepping back. Mechanic If your character is forced to skip his turn, roll the die. If the result is equal to the number shown on the card of the mechanic character, your character doesn’t skip his turn. Fan If your character is the last on the track, he receives bonus to the movement die roll, shown on the card of the fan character. 4 NEW TRACKS When the players master the track shown in the “Set up”, they can create a new track for their races. The players can create any track, using the cardboard elements included in this game, but they have to remember the following rules. - The track must always consist of 16 elements; - Even the most complicated track must be a closed-circuit; - You may slightly move apart the elements of the track, if you want the track to be more unusual; - Elements with Acceleration fields may not be adjacent – they must have 2-3 other elements in between; - The rules must always be the same as for the starter track. Example: On the picture to the right McQueen appears as a fan with a characteristic = 1. See the description of Special Ability Tokens on the last page of these Rules. 5 CHARACTERS’ ABILITIES MCQUEEN MATER «I’m speed!» It you roll 1 or 4, you may add 1 to your movement. «Catch up!!» Each time any character moves through the field occupied by Mater, he must roll the die. If the result is 1 or 4, the character must stop his movement and is placed on a free field near Mater or behind him. KING SALLY Thirst for victory If King is the last on the track, he receives +2 to the roll of the die. Calculating Race This token must be used before the roll of the die. The player doesn’t roll the die – instead he may choose any number from 1 to 4 and use it for his movement. Undercut This token can be used before or after the die roll. Choose a character on the adjacent field – this character must skip his next turn. Evade This token is used as a reaction to another Special Ability token or any Character’s ability. Your character is not affected by this ability.
