As the weather in Beijing is getting warmer, we are looking forward to announcing a broad array of exciting
events ranging from informative presentations and lectures to diverse sport events.
One of this month’s highlights is the German Centre Beijing Tenants’ Meeting 2009 taking place on 13
June. Under the label “German Summer Festival” participants will be given plenty of opportunities to
interact in sports from a dodgeball tournament over different athletic competitions to a range of fun
events as well as to enjoy a typical BBQ with a cold beer. There will be a great emphasis on the program for
children who can enjoy our special kid’s corner!
Furthermore, lectures on modern dance in China, on the future of China’s mobility and on intercultural
presentation skills will round up this month’s events together with an outline of the current Chinese
economical situation.

Spannende Stunden sind mit der Ausstellung der Themenkollektion „Krimi“ in der neuen Bibliothek des
Goethe-Institutes in Haidian gesichert. In insgesamt dreißig Titeln sind die Hüter des Gesetzes den Tätern
auf der Spur, und manchmal verschwimmen auf der Verbrecherjagd die Grenzen zwischen Opfer und Täter.
Alle Titel sind von 2003 bis 2008 mit dem Deutschen Krimipreis oder dem Friedrich-Glauser-Preis

Abstract: Ms. Friedman will discuss the current situation of modern dance in China in the context of
domestic economic forces and market pressures from abroad. Her research examines the evolving
Chinese performing arts context and explores influences that are encumbering the development of
modern dance in China. She will also offer observations for what must happen for a homegrown modern
dance “genius” to develop in China.
Alison
Alison M. Friedman was International Director of the Beijing Modern Dance Company from 2005 until 2008
when she was hired by Oscar-winning composer Tan Dun to be General Manager of his company Parnassus
Productions, Inc. She came to Beijing in 2002 on a Fulbright Fellowship to research the development of
modern dance in China. In addition to lecturing on modern dance in both China and abroad, she has
conducted research for the Royal Netherlands Embassy and the Asian Cultural Council and her writing has
appeared in Dance Magazine (USA). She has worked as consultant for the US Embassy in China, Columbia
University, the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater as well as other overseas dance and theater companies
touring China. From 2003-2005 she hosted a live music program on China Radio International (CRI),
China’s largest government-run radio station.

China's Growth in New Energy Motorization: High Desperation & High Potential
As China has the biggest growth rates in individual motorization – thus from low level – Linya recently
analyzed the impact of the worldwide trend towards electrification of power-trains related to China’s
mobility patterns.
"How will China's Urban Mobility look alike in 2020?"
2020?"
Assuming that China has great desperation and high potential combined with the political will for energy
saving, the researchers' question was: “What impact will the new energy mobility have on China’s overall
mobility pattern in the mid-term future (10 years)?” Or more generally speaking: "How will China’s urban
mobility look alike in 2020?"
Coherent but Multiple Possible Scenarios for China's Mobility
Stating possible future trajectories, Linya choose the scenario method to anticipate, gain insights and
highlight some educated guesses into China’s future of possi(mo)bilities. Five outcomes of possible future
developments in China were constructed; three core mobility scenarios, which seem likely to be China’s
future mobility trajectory, will be presented. All scenarios differ very much; however, they all characterize a
convincing and coherent mobility story for China’s future.

Die Alexander von Humboldt-Stiftung vergibt je bis zu zehn Bundeskanzler-Stipendien an junge,
zukünftige Führungskräfte aus der Russischen Föderation, den USA und der Volksrepublik China, um die
langfristigen Kontakte mit den künftigen Eliten dieser Länder zu stärken. Das Stipendium ermöglicht, in
einer frühen Phase der Karriere ein Projekt bei einem deutschen Gastgeber aus Wirtschaft, Politik oder
Gesellschaft zu verwirklichen. Bewerben können sich Vertreter vorzugsweise der Geistes-, Rechts-,
Sozial- und Wirtschaftswissenschaften, aber auch anderer Disziplinen, die mindestens über einen ersten

They express a new angle for seeing and thinking. Just as he said, "A pile of mani stones, a winding tarmac

Die Deutsch-Chinesische Promenade ist Höhepunkt der vierten Station Liaoning / Shenyang von
"Deutschland und China - Gemeinsam in Bewegung". Die dreijährige Veranstaltungsreihe, die 2010 mit
der Expo ihren Höhepunkt findet, nimmt sich zum Ziel, gegenseitiges Verstehen als Grundlage
erfolgreicher Zusammenarbeit zu fördern und das Bild von Deutschland als einem zukunftsorientierten,
innovativen Land zu stärken.

II: Hamburg offers EXPO jobs in Shanghai
From 1 May to 31 October, Expo 2010 will be taking place in Hamburg’s partner city Shanghai/PR China.
On the topic “Better city, better life”, not only different countries but also individual cities will be
presenting themselves at an International Exhibition for the first time. As the only German city, the Free
and Hanseatic City of Hamburg will be involved with its own building project – the Hamburg House. The
building will probably be the first certified new construction project for a passive-house with an excellent
energy standard in China, thus setting new standards. To support the core team in this innovative project,
we are looking for assistants, hosts/hostesses and volunteers. Further information can be obtained from
