Like Shrubbery? What is that? Is the follow-up to
Tanzmann & Stefanik’s debut “Them People” (charted
rank 14 in germany’s groove magazine) going to be a
jungle track? No, not at all!
The reason for this title is actually way more banal and
somehow even refers to the old masters of British
humor. Matthias Tanzmann: “We eventually stumbled
across the word ‘shrubbery’ in some silly English text
about Feng Shui. It’s been quite funny to us in that
context, especially by being remembered of Monty
Python’s ‘Quest for the Holy Grail’”.
A few minutes of strange microphone freestyling later,
the vocals of “Like Shrubbery?” were recorded and the
perfect name for the hypnotic club track with the deep
emerging bassline was given. Like Shrubbery?
Like Shrubbery? Wie, ein Gebüsch? Soll der Nachfolger
von Tanzmann & Stefaniks gemeinsamen Debüt „Them
People“ (Platz 14 der Groove-Charts) etwa ein JungleTrack werden? Natürlich nicht, warum auch?
Der eigentliche Grund für diese Namenswahl ist ein
ganzes Stück banaler und verweist dabei auf die
Altmeister des britischen Humors. „Wir sind irgendwann
mal auf das Wort Shrubbery in einem englischen Text
über Feng Shui gestoßen“, berichtet Matthias
Tanzmann. “Das war in dem Zusammenhang ziemlich
lustig, besonders, weil es uns an Monty Phytons ‘Quest
for the Holy Grail / Ritter der Kokosnuss’ erinnerte”.
Wenige Minuten voller Gaga-Humor später waren die
Vocals zu „Like Shrubbery?“ im Kasten und der perfekte
Name für den hypnotischen Clubtrack mit seiner tief
wabernden Bassline gefunden. Like shrubbery?
The B-side is diving further into the depths of the
Tanzmann & Stefanik sound. “Seaview Dinner”
combines Tanzmann’s warm deep house sound with
Stefanik’s capable flair for the appropriate Detroit touch.
A fresh spring tune.
The 12” is completed by “Sense Appeal”, a floating dubtech track for a slight goose bump in late night hours.
True Moon Harbour style.
Furthermore, Tanzmann & Stefanik are attracting
attention outside Moon Harbour. Their remix for DJ Fex
is to be out soon on Dessous Recordings. And Matthias
Tanzmann’s collaboration with Steve Bug (Bug &
Tanzmann – Tanzbug EP) will see its release on
Pokerflat these days as well.
Die B-Seite taucht noch weiter ein in die Tiefen des
Tanzmann & Stefanik-Sounds. „Seaview Dinner“
verbindet Tanzmanns warmen Deep House Sound mit
Stefaniks filigranem Gespür für den passenden DetroitTouch. Eine angenehm unkitschige Frühlingsnummer.
Den Abschluss bildet „Sense Appeal“, eine schwebende
Dub-Tech-Nummer für dezente Gänsehaut zur späten
Stunde. True Moon Harbour style.
Auch außerhalb von Moon Harbour machen Tanzmann
& Stefanik gerade von sich reden. Demnächst erscheint
ihr Remix für DJ Fex auf Dessous sowie Matthias

Mögen Sie Gebüsch? Die Leipziger Matthias Tanzmann und Daniel Stefanik tun es jedenfalls und präsentieren die
Nachfolge-Single von „Them People“ als Postacid-inspirierten Bassrotor mit dadaistischem Humor und frühen
Perlon-Stücken nicht unähnlicher Ästhetik. Auf der B-Seite wird dann auch noch deeper Detroit-Dubhouse mit einer

Fantastic 3 track EP from the even consistent Moon Harbour camp. The title track is a simple, subtle number with
clicky, groovy beats and the title sampled in very cheeky way. Funky and funky at the same time. The flip features
“Seaview Dinner” a silky, deep tech house affair on the Steve Bug or Jeff Bennet tip, with an amazing bassline and
slow building vibe. “Sense Appeal” wraps up the package with some unreal synth work that moves the track
progressively onward and upward. Another outstanding package.
Only For DJs N°106 (06-2005): 3/5 Points! Franchement, on a du mal à comprendre les paroles de “Like
Schrubbery?”, mais bon, on s’en fout… Entre house et tech-house, ce nouveau morceau de Tanzmann & Stefanik
est une bonne pièce à mixer, un peu faiblarde sur la longueur, mais avec une tranche efficace en milieu de face.
Sur la B-side, la tech-house des Allemands se fait plus deep (“Seaviw Dinner”), avant de virer carrément dub sur
“Sense Appeal”. Pour débuts de soirées. YQ

minimalen Track einzuweben, so dass durch die recht sinnfreien Vocals in der Verbindung mit einem wabernden
Bass ein effektiv klöppelnder etwas tänzelnd Zwingendes entsteht, dass gerade durch seine subtile Hypnotik eine
Menge Energie gebunden wird, die wiederum die perfekte Spannung für den Dancefloor entwickelt. So einfach
