Stricter requirements and demands with respect to safety and performance, and the integration of new drive concepts while allowing for cost factors and increasingly shorter development times, are major challenges facing developers, designers, and manufacturers. In addition to these demanding tasks, issues such as environmental protection, CO2 emissions and fuel consumption, along with energy and cost efficiency have gained importance. The wheel/tire system thus has a major impact on the product features and the accompanying emotions that a vehicle can elicit. In the area of research & development, products are being designed which take into account the demanding global market requirements pertaining to safety, comfort, driving experience, and the environment. In this complex setting, the objective of this congress is to present solutions for the future. At the same time, tire.wheel.tech 2008 offers an attractive platform for experts to exchange experiences and provides a know-how forum for the latest technological advances – as well as for future developments. 11:15 a.m. The new LBF wheel-road simulator – Development and utilization perspectives Rüdiger Heim, I.
