DEUTSCHE WERKSTaTTEN Allgemeine Hypothekenbank, Berlin Branch, Palais am Pariser Platz Complete interior outfitting, diverse furnishings The entire fourth floor of the Palais am Pariser Platz, right next to the Brandenburg Gate, is used by the Allgemeine Hypothekenbank (Photos 1 to 5). This floor is the Berlin branch of the Bank (whose Headquarters is in Frankfurt am Main where the Deutsche Werkstätten were also invited to carry out their work (Photos 6 to 10)) as well as an impressive area for conferences and receptions.Deutsche Werkstätten was commissioned with the planning and implementation of the interior design for both areas.Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau was commissioned with the planning and design of interior construction and furnishing. Our firm handled all the interior work including laying the flooring, installing the lighting and selecting the window dressings and furniture. Our work on this branch encompassed the reception area, the office of the branch manager with adjoining conference room as well as functional staff offices. A reception area with adjoining lobby was created for the conference area, as was a conference and dining area, a representative office, restrooms and a kitchenette. Since the building—s window and door frames were already made from oak, interior designer Stephanie Wienberg decided to carry this material through to the furniture, parquet flooring and wall panelling. An adjustable table unit allows versatile use of the conference and dining area. Large sliding doors, realised as oak frames holding frosted glass, open onto the lobby. Whilst the office is put at the disposal of the bank—s executive management as work space when they come to Berlin for meetings, the double-wing door also allows this room to be incorporated into special events. Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau designed and produced the furniture for exactly this purpose. Selected classical Italian items of furniture and modern lighting underscore the elegance of the whole. Ecru carpets, framed by an oak parquet frieze, and the bright silk of the window dressings convey elegance and airiness. The sideboards and panelling were also created at Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau based on our own designs. The warm feel to the lime-washed oak wood dominates, set off by the contrast with the black stained oak.
