MY "Octopus"
Work on the 413ft mega yacht Octopus gave the firm Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau experience in
the construction of two highly unusual interior spaces. Over two levels, they built, among other
things, a cinema and a studio for the yacht's music-loving owner. In addition to the customised
specifications typically provided by Deutsche Werkstätten Hellerau, this project involved
soundproofing the music studio to allow professional recordings to be made. The whole space was
soundproofed using multiplex boards with two 4mm-thick lead inserts to dampen the vibrations. The
same approach was also used for the cinema.
