This short film is produced within the academy’s course of
advanced studies. The project is supported not only by Prof.
Didi Danquart’s mentoring, but also with professional camera
and lighting equipment. Behind the scenes a team of freelancers
and students attending film-, music-, and media arts colleges
are working together on this project. All of them are working
for free and are joined together through their passion for filmmaking. “The Entertainer” is to be screened on national and
international film festivals.

CONTENT
SYNOPSIS
Street musician and entertainer Alejandro
Astar gets a fateful offer: He is supposed to
sing during a casting for a big cinema
production. Alejandro scents his chance of a
late career and the big money. But as he
cannot get rid of his drinking problem and
choleric nature he screws up everything.
During the casting he loses control...

Abstract
Alejandro Astar, 43, passionate entertainer, Clark Gable moustache, pinstripe-suited,
with patent leather shoes, keeps spending the little money he earns on booze. Even
Frank, his manager, owner of his temporary den in an old bowling alley in the cellar of
his pub, the „Dünnwalder Treff“ and his keyboarder, can't change him. But one day
Frank gets a call from a casting agent, asking Alejandro to prepare for an audition for
a big movie production. Hans, the bass player, warns Alejandro not to take the offer.
But Alejandro smells the chance of a late career and the big money, which, however, is
no reason for him to change his lifestyle: He joins the audition drunk and messes up the
whole evening, losing control of himself and dying of a heart attack. That's how the
story ends, isn't it?

Style
In surrealistic and exaggerated episodes, the movie tells the
story of the strange friendship of its protagonists and their
love of music. It shows the spiritual abyss of a singer, who
is being perceived as a freak. It is told in between space
and time. It is somnolent and totally hyped up. Like life, it
is screamingly funny, incomprehensible, unpredictable, and
sometimes dull, sad and traumatic.
Music
Music is a constant companion, object of projection and
Alejandro’s passion. Modelled after the music of the 20s and
30s, it plays a leading part in this movie. Songs like Me and
my shadow, I'll se you in my dreams and There'll be some
changes made are going to be performed live with minimal
instrumentation by the main cast and are going to guide
through the movie. In addition an orchestrated version of the
songs is to be recorded after the shooting.
