CURRENT ACADEMIC POSITION: Professor of German with tenure, The Univ. of Iowa, since 2007 (at the
UI since 1990). Nominated 0 % appointment Honors Program (pending).
RESEARCH AND TEACHING INTERESTS: German literature, mainly narrative prose of the 18th and 19th
centuries (novel, historical novel, autobiography and biography, women writers), interrelations of literature and
art, German cultural history, correspondence.
EDUCATION: Dr. phil. (equivalent to Ph. D.), University of Regensburg, Germany, July 1988 ("Summa cum
laude").
