SP-­‐ARTE ANNOUNCES THE GALLERIES PARTICIPATING IN THE SHOWCASE, SOLO AND OPEN PLAN SECTIONS SP-Arte, the leading Latin American art fair, will present special projects from the world’s leading
galleries in its parallel sections on 2015: Solo, Open Plan and Showcase. These galleries will add to the
galleries participating on the main section of the fair.
The Solo section, in its second edition is a curated space that reflects the vision of its two curators, Rodrigo
Moura and María Inés Rodriguéz. Each gallery will be presenting a single artist; the works selected address
themes of politics, history, fiction, and conceptualism among other issues, many of them specifically focus
on Latin America.
The galleries and artists present in the Solo area include Ricardo Homen, AM Galeria de Arte (Brazil);
Rosemarie Castoro, Broadway 1602 (USA); Sergio Verastegui, Cortex Athletico (France); Augusto de
Campos, Document Art Gallery (Argentina); Fernanda Fragateiro, Galería Elba Benítez (Spain); Liliana
Porter, Espacio Minimo (Spain); Carolina Caycedo, Instituto de Visión (Colombia); Montez Magno,
Galeria Pilar (Brazil); Wilfredo Prieto, Nogueras Blanchard (Spain); Mario Cravo Junior, Paulo Darzé
Galeria de Arte (Brazil); Almandrade, Roberto Alban Galería (Brazil); and Mangelos, Aanant & Zoo
(Germany).
Open Plan, organized by Jacopo Crivelli Visconti, curator of the Cuenca Biennial, is an area dedicated to
site- specific works and large installations by well-known artists. Open Plan is the newest addition to SPARTE and will present an innovative layout breaking away from the traditional fair model giving visitors
the opportunity to engage directly with the works thanks to its design.

Parallel to these two curated sections, Showcase will come back for its third edition presenting works by a
maximum of three artists. This section is of special interest for visitors as it features an assortment of
emerging galleries. This year Showcase will present historical Brazilian artists, such as pop artist Carlos
Vergara and conceptual artist Mira Schendel juxtaposed with works by younger artists including Ariel
Reichman (South Africa) as well as mid-career artists such as Rosemberg Sandoval (Colombia).

Apart from the Main Section, Solo, Showcase and Open Plan, SP-ARTE will have a Talks Program
organized in conjunction with ARTE!Brasileiros. The panel discussions will focus on the art market as well
as art and its cultural significance. Highlights include Sarah Thornton, author of 7 days in the art world, as
well as Thomas Galbreith, managing director of Paddle8, the online auction start-up.
SP-Arte is a platform within the international art scene, bringing together galleries, institutions and art
professionals for a unique experience in São Paulo. As the cultural capital of the country, with the most
prestigious museums, foundations and galleries, São Paulo will host the most remarkable exhibitions and
art events to coincide with SP-ARTE. Some events include exhibitions of world renowned artists, like
Marina Abromovic at Sesc Pompeia; José Resende, Nelson Fenix, and Sean Scully at Pinacoteca de Estado
de São Paulo.

the world including countries as Austria, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, South Africa, Spain,
Switzerland, United States of America, United Kingdom and Uruguay accompanying more that 80 galleries
from Brazil.
2. SP-Arte/2015 in numbers: 112 galleries in the Main sector 12 galleries in the Solo section (4 of which

3. About the Solo Section curators: Colombian María Inés Rodríguez is currently the Chief Curator,
Director of Contemporary Art Museum Bordeaux. She formerly headed the artistic program of the Museo
Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo (MUAC) in Mexico City. From November 2009-2011, María Inés
Rodríguez was the Chief Curator of the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Castilla y León (Spain). During
2008-2009, she has been the Curator of Satellite program at Jeu de Paume, Paris, as well as the Editor of the
French art publication Point d’Ironie in Paris. As an independent curator and art critic, she has worked on
exhibitions and research projects on the strategies of appropriation of the public space in different spaces of
contemporary art, which relate the art, the design, the architecture and the urbanism. Rodrigo Moura is the
art and cultural diretor of Inhotim, museum in the countryside of Minas Gerais state. He joined as an
assistant curator and coordinated site-specific works by artists such as Jorge Macchi, Marilá Dardot and
Rivane Neuenschwander. He also worked as the curator of Museu de Arte da Pampulha, in Belo Horizonte.
As a journalist, editor and art critic, he had pieces published by Folha de S. Paulo, Flash Art International
and Art Nexus, among others.
4. About the Open Plan Section curator: Jacopo Crivelli Visconti is a curator and writer. He was curator of
the xii Cuenca Biennial in Peru and he has been responsible of exhibition such as the Brazilian Pavilion in
the 52 Benniale di Venezia in 2007; Sismografo at Palacio das Artes de Belo Horizonte; and Ponto de
equilibrio at the Instituto Tomie Ohtake.
5. About the location: SP-Arte takes place in the Ciccillo Matarazzo Pavilion at the Ibirapuera Park in Sao
Paulo. The pavilion was designed by Oscar Neimeyer and Hélio Uchôa.
