Diogo Navarro é de uma rapidez impressionante a desenhar e a
pintar. Todos somos testemunhas disso neste antigo Paço Real.
Por exemplo, enquanto esperava por uma reunião comigo fez
o esquiço da escadaria principal, nuns escassos 15 minutos.
Ficou lindo, vão vê-lo!
Diogo Navarro draws and paints with an impressive speed. We
have all witnessed this in the former Royal Palace. Just to mention
an example, once while waiting for a meeting with me, he made
the sketch of the main staircase, barely in 15 minutes. It is beautiful, go see it!
A sua vivência no Palácio provocou-lhe espanto, interrogações.
As cores, estilos e arquitetura foram-se unindo e organizando
na sua cabeça, o que também quer dizer braço, mão e pincel.
A sua imaginação prodigiosa traz-nos lustres contemporâneos,
reis ruídos pelo tempo e paisagens palacianas que nos lembram Visconti ou Turner.
His presence at the Palace provoked unexpected questions. The
colours, styles and architecture were merged and organized in his
head also integrating the arm, hand and brush.
Como trabalhou muito nas salas do Palácio, a luz, as peças e o
público interagiram com ele e, julgo, que este envolvimento
será inesquecível para Diogo Navarro. Para nós também o foi.
E termino como no primeiro catálogo “Que este Olhar sobre
o Palácio Nacional da Ajuda possa contribuir não só para a
divulgação deste Palácio/Museu, mas também para que os visitantes levem para casa um pouco a ideia de que o artista contemporâneo pode e deve questionar o passado, recriando-o”.1

His prodigious imagination brings us contemporary chandeliers,
Kings beeing eaten by time and palatial landscapes that reminds
us of Visconti or Turner.
As he worked in the halls of the Palace, the light, the objects and
the visitors interacted with him and, I believe, that this involvement will be an unforgettable experience for Diogo Navarro. It
certainly is for us.
I hereby conclude in the manner in which I did in the first catalogue “what this perspective of the Ajuda National Palace contributes, is not only a disclosure of the Palace / Museum, but also
something for the visitors to bring back home with them, which is
an idea of that the contemporary artist can and should question
the past, by recreating it “ .1

Viajo aqui pelo olhar de outros artistas, porque no fundo somos sempre intérpretes da arte da vida.
UM OLHAR SOBRE O PALÁCIO
Trabalhar com Diogo Navarro é um prazer – o seu sorriso é
contagiante, a sua força e poder de sedução são enormes
- até consegue convencer-nos que, a dois meses da data da
exposição e tendo tão poucas obras concluídas, tem tempo
suficiente para produzir as obras que idealizara.
For years, Diogo Navarro has prevailed as a young talent, whose
work has been shown in numerous exhibitions.
Working with Diogo Navarro is a pleasure - his smile is contagious,
his strength and powers of seduction overwhelming - effective
enough to convince us only two months prior to the exhibition,
with only a few finalised works of art that he will deliver the idealised in due time.
Diogo Navarro impôs-se há anos como um jovem talento e tem
apresentado as suas obras em inúmeras exposições.
Deixei-me perder nos labirínticos corredores cheios de pinturas e fotografias de
outros tempos, onde imagino histórias de uma época passada e rituais que fazem
parar o tempo e reforçam assim o sentido da nossa própria realidade.
Entre o desejo de criar, ao ritmo de uma pincelada perdida, e o olhar que se dispersa pelas imagens de estátuas, lustres, de salas e frescos sem contar, encontro a
minha mão, e dela nasce uma nova obra.
Neste e para este Palácio que me deixou sonhar através de outros olhares, partilho
a minha expressão em espaços oníricos e gestos sem fim onde me reencontro no
tempo e no ritmo da nossa história.
An artist’s atelier, A perspective of the Palace
Here I travel through the perspective of other artists, seeing that in the end we are all
interpreters of the art of life.
I surrender myself to the corridors of the labyrinthine, full of paintings and photographs from times gone by, where I imagine stories of a past age and rituals that make
time stand still, hence, reinforcing the sense of our own reality.
In the midst of the desire to create, the rhythm of a lost stroke and my gaze that disperses with the images of countless statues, chandeliers, rooms and frescos, I uncover
my hand from which a new work of art is born.
In this place and for this Palace that allowed me to fly through the view of others,
I share my expression in dream-like spaces and endless gestures where I rediscover
myself in time and in the cadence of our history.
