Page A Letter From Our Principal
Dear Eastvalley Families,
Happy New Year to all of you! Here’s wishing you a joyful and prosperous
year ahead.
As you receive this, we are in the middle of conference week. Each of you
is scheduled to meet with your child’s teacher(s) during this time. Please
take this time to ask questions, become informed, and express concerns.
Teachers want your help in getting your child to learn all the standards in
the grade level and will have some tips on how you can help at home.
Each family has/will also received a survey from Cobb County at your
conference. It is titled 2010 School Improvement Parent Survey. Please
Karen Wacker, Principal
do your best to complete the form and returned to school by February 12.
The survey results are used to collect data and make changes/improvements to Eastvalley’s School Strategic Plan.
We will determine progress on current goals and possibly develop new goals based on the survey. Thank you for your
open, honest input that will help make Eastvalley a top notch school!!
Thank you again for the privilege of teaching your child(ren). If you ever have any comments or questions for me,
please contact me at 770-578-7214 or [email protected].

interested in leading the PTA in any role, Co-President, Co-Vice-President, or Secretary. We look forward to hearing
from you!
Also, If you aren’t currently receiving our weekly PTA e-mail updates, please go www.EastvalleyElementary.com and
sign up. It’s simple and will keep you in the know.

Page Did you know many companies offer a
matching gift program? Many EV parents are employed by companies that
encourage donations to registered charities like the Eastvalley Foundation. They
work with employees to offer additional funding to schools by matching up to 100%
of your donation. To find out if your company matches, contact your benefits
department or contact us directly if you’d like help.
Tax-Deductible Donations
Start 2010 off right! Make a donation to your
favorite non-profit: The Eastvalley Foundation. The EV Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. You can make
your donation to us, benefit your child’s school and get a tax-deduction all in one. It’s a win-win. We will take cash,
checks or you can donate online at http://eastvalleyfoundation.org .
Spirit Night at Saporitos, Thursday, February 11th
Our next Eastvalley Saporito’s Spirit

It is often said that gratitude is the key to happiness. During this season of giving, I truly believe no truer words have

support. As a result of your generosity, we were able to help many families in our community. In a time when money
is tight and demand for services is higher than ever, we are so very grateful for your continued belief in our outreach
program. Thank you, together we CAN make a difference!

Dedicate-A-Book Program Are you looking for a
great gift giving idea? How about dedicating a book to
Eastvalley’s Media Center? You could dedicate a book
to honor a special grandparent, family member or friend.
You could take a picture of your child with the dedicated
book. Then wrap up the picture as a gift to that special
person. In doing so you would be instilling the love of reading and leaving a wonderful legacy!
If you would like to dedicate a book to Eastvalley’s Media Center, just make a $10.00 donation to the Media Center and
fill out a Dedicate-A-Book form. Mrs. Cindy Moran or Mrs. Janice Ritt will be happy to assist you or answer any questions about our program.
Thanks for Donating! We would like to extend a huge thank you to Christopher Jones’ family for making eight book
donations to our Dedicate-A-Book Program. What a generous gift! Congratulations and appreciation is also extended
to PJ Goodloe’s family, Blake Feilmeier’s family, Jonathon Coles’ family and Katie, Zack, and Nicholas Miesch’s family.
Your gifts of dedicated books are very much appreciated and will be enjoyed by many students for years to come!
PebbleGo Have you had an opportunity to check out PebbleGo, a new research resource located on Cobb Virtual
Library? If you like to learn facts about animals and want to improve your reading skills, this is an awesome website!
PebbleGo is a user-friendly database designed for K-2 emergent readers. The website features over 200 animal articles
along with animal audio and video. Wonderful photographs of the featured animals support the student’s comprehension
skills and keep them engaged. PebbleGo’s innovative read-aloud capabilities and word-by-word highlighting are easy to
navigate. Animal videos and sounds make the content come alive.
Students can easily access PebbleGo from school or from home by clicking on Eastvalley’s Home Page
(www.EastvalleyElementary.com) and clicking on the Cobb Virtual Library hyperlink. Click on Elementary and then
type in the user name and password located inside your child’s take home folder. Then just click on the PebbleGo link.
If you have any questions about this website, please call Mrs. Janice Ritt, Media Specialist at Eastvalley Elementary.
Hope you enjoy this site!

Georgia Laws on
Leaving Children
Home Alone
Lei da Geórgia SobrePage 10
Deixar Crianças
Sozinhos em Casa
Many parents struggle with the question
of hiring a babysitter or leaving their
children home alone. Fortunately, the
state of Georgia has a policy outlining
what the Department of Family and
Children Services views as adequate
supervision.
Muitos Pais tem dificuldades com a
decisão de encontrar uma babá ou deixar
a criança em casa sozinha. Felizmente o
estado da Geórgia tem um plano de ação
indicando o que o Departamento de
Serviços da Família e Crianças indica o
que é a supervisão adequada.
O plano de supervisão do estado da
Geórgia indica o seguinte:
The State of Georgia’s Supervision
Policy states the following:
• Children ages 13 years old and
above who are at an adequate level of maturity can
act as babysitters for other children, for up to 12 hours.
• Crianças de 13 anos acima que possuem um nível
adequado de maturidade, podem atuar como babá para
outras crianças pelo período de 12 horas.
• Children ages 9-12 years old who are at an adequate
level of maturity can be left unsupervised for brief
periods of time (less than two hours).
• Crianças de 9 – 12 anos que possuem um nível
adequado de maturidade pedem ficar sós por um breve
período de tempo(menos de duas horas).
• Children who are 8 years old and younger should
never be left home alone under any circumstance.
• Crianças de 8 anos abaixo não devem nunca ficar sós
em nenhuma circunstância.
