Colorida Art Gallery was founded in 2007. The gallery is located by the
Castle of São Jorge in the highest hill of the historic centre of Lisbon, in a
building more than 150 years old. Its principal focus is the
representation of an international group of contemporary artists whose
diverse practices include painting, photography, sculpture and
drawing. Embracing artists who are both emerging and established,
trained and self taught, Colorida Art Gallery cultivates artist growth
and makes a vital contribution to the Europe arts community.
The gallery seeks to provide its artists with a solid podium that achieves
both to best present the individuality of their works and to draw
attention to the works inherent cultural significance. The gallery has a
strong commitment to its artists and has worked with galleries and
institutions around the world to establish their careers. Most of its artists
have had extensive museum activity, monographs, critical acclaim and
important recognition from the international collection community.
Colorida Art Gallery assists both beginning and veteran collectors,
buying and selling contemporary works of established and emerging
artists.
A Colorida Art Gallery foi inaugurada em 2007 na Costa do Castelo em
Lisboa em um edifício histórico com mais de 150 anos de construção.
Com uma área de 300m2, possui diferentes espaços expositivos
interligados, porém independentes, que facilitam a organização tanto
de exposições com trabalhos em grande formato, quanto exposições com
carácter mais intimista.
A galeria busca apresentar ao público projetos inéditos, com uma
gestão empresarial que valoriza o trabalho do artista exposto. Mais do
que um simples espaço expositivo, a Colorida Art Gallery tornou-se uma
alternativa à rigidez dos espaços tradicionais de arte de Portugal. A
galeria tem como um de seus principais objetivos aproximar artistas e
público para ampliar o debate crítico artístico entre ambos. A Colorida
busca também promover a pluralidade de linguagens e apresentar
uma programação eclética com forte confrontação e experimentação,
que caracterizam a arte atual..

Alexander Lee nasceu no Reino Unido, cresceu na Austrália,
actualmente vive e trabalha na Áustria.

I was born in 1975 in Blackburn, England. My background is Fine Art and I
studied in the years 1997-1999 at the School of Fine Art Claremont in Perth
Western Australia. So at the beginning of my career, it was natural that I
created a set of detailed pencil drawings. One of my earliest works is "Cat &
Mouse" from 2008 which can be seen on my website.
In 2009, I started working more and more with acrylic paint on watercolor
paper. A collection which I am particularly proud of from 2009 is my black /
white paintings with scenes from a Stockholm from the past. They have a
lovely, old photograph feel about them. They quickly became popular with art
lovers and other observers.
Stockholm was my inspiration source and focus of my work in 2009. I tried to
capture the many faces of Stockholm; during the seasons changing and from
different perspectives.
A greater part of 2010 I spent in Margaret River, Western Australia. I focused
mainly on creating from the sea and vineyards as inspiration to my motives. I
worked with both pencils and acrylic paints, not only on paper but also on
canvas. I worked among other things, along with surf photographers and
exhibited my drawings of waves and sea in their gallery.
My works were influenced by the many vineyards in the area and the
energetic coastal landscape. Western Australia is almost every year hit with
bushfires and I also painted a few works with these fires as motives.
At the end of the year I started to experiment more with the abstract.
Lately I have been working a lot with portraits, paintings / drawings of
summer houses, winter landscape, animal motifs etc
Over the years I have had a number of exhibitions, 2012 and 2013 being my
most active years with exhibitions in London (Parallax Art Fair), Scheyern,
Germany (Kunst im Gut), Tuscany (Chianciano Terme Biennale) Italy,
Salzburg etc. During the Chianciano Terme Biennale in Tuscany, I received
an award for Work on Paper; The Leonardo Award 2nd Prize.
In February 2014, I participated in the event, Diamonds for Life in Antwerp,
Belgium, exhibiting two of my art pieces at the Royal Paleis op de Meir and in
September there is a scheduled exhibition for Vienna, Austria. In July I
exhibit at the Parallax in London again.
Preferred style and medium is Pencil Drawings and Acrylic Painting.
