Simpsiö is undoubtedly the best all-round Ski Centre in Western
Finland. The centre provides the very best of services for enjoyable
outdoor recreation: a halfpipe meeting international standards,
top quality ski slopes, play areas for children, a sledging hill, and
illuminated cross-country skiing tracks meeting high track-profile
requirements. The centre even organises four-wheel drive safaris,
and snowmobile rentals.
Lapua’s many winter-service providers are also happy to offer
opportunities for their guests. These include Sateenkaari Recreational
Swimming Pool, Vanha Paukku Cultural Centre, with its changing
exhibitions and events, Latosaari Dance Hall, a night club, many
restaurants and excellent places for winter fishing.
Das Skizentrum Simpsiö ist zweifelsfrei das höchstklassigste
und vielseitigste seiner Art in Westfinnland. Das Zentrum stellt
die besten Vorraussetzungen zur Erholung in freier Natur bereit:

The Simpsiö ski school
is suitable for both
beginners and more
experienced downhill skiers.
Under the guidance of professional
ski instructors you can easily start
a new sport or broaden your skills
in the secrets of downhill skiing.
The ski school has no age limit.
The Simpsiö caravan site provides more than
100 pitches for caravans. Furthermore, 12 caravan
pitches are pitched by the side of Taivaanpankko with
services very close by. On Saturdays from 5 p.m. to
7 p.m., the price of a caravan pitch even includes a sauna
and shower. Electricity is charged only for long-term pitches.

Skischule
Die Skischule in Simpsiö unterrichtet sowohl Anfänger als auch
erfahrene Slalom-Skifahrer. Unter der Anleitung von professionellen
Skilehrern können Sie problemlos mit einem neuen Sport beginnen
oder Ihr Können auf den Brettern weiterentwickeln. Die Skischule hat
keine Altersbegrenzung.

Der Campingplatz Simpsiö verfügt über mehr als 100 Stellplätze
für Wohnmobile/ Wohnwagen. Direkt neben dem Restaurant
Taivaanpankko gibt es 12 Stellplätze in unmittelbarer Nähe zu den
Dienstleistungen. An Samstagen von 17.00 – 19.00 ist die Benutzung
von Sauna und Duschen in der Stellplatzgebühr inbegriffen.
Stromkosten werden nur für Saisonplätze in Rechnung gestellt.

The Cultural Centre,
created at the old
industrial premises of
the former Lapua cartridge
factory, is situated on the
Lapuanjoki riverbank,
at the very heart of the city.
Iso Tehdas (the Big Factory) is the
largest building in the area and its facades
remain virtually unchanged from the original.
The old factory’s atmosphere can still be perceived
in the library, exhibition rooms, open college and
conservatoire.
Das Kulturzentrum, das in den renovierten und
umgebauten Räumlichkeiten einer ehemaligen
Munitionsfabrik sein Zuhause gefunden hat, liegt am
Ufer des Flusses Lapua im Herzen der Stadt.
Iso Tehdas (die große Fabrik) ist das größte Gebäude
in dieser Umgebung. Seine Fassade wurde so gut wie
vollkommen in ihrer orginalen Form erhalten. Die
Atmosphäre der alten Fabrik ist auch heute noch in
den Räumen der Bibliothek, den Ausstellungsräumen,
der Heimvolkshochschule und dem Musikinstitut
erhalten.

Der tragische Unfall im Jahre 1976 , von einer Explosion verursacht, schuf das
Bedürfnis nach einer Gedenkkapelle in der früheren Schmiede, wo heutzutage auch

The Cartridge Gallery and the Pyhälahti Photography Museum as well the Town
Cultural Bureau and the Information Centre, all have their premises facing the courtyard.
The tragic accident caused by an explosion in 1976 created a need for a memorial
Chapel in the former smithy where also weddings, christening ceremonies and concerts
are arranged today.

The Pyhälahti Photographer’s Shop Museum
The museum’s basic exhibition presents the history of
Finnish photography, and photographs from the 20th
century.
The exhibition is based on the equipment and photographic
collections of the Pyhälahti Photographer’s Shop, which
was operating in Lapua from 1900 to 1980.
The exhibition includes a studio, waiting room,
photographer’s working room and a darkroom. Plenty of
photographs taken by the former studio are naturally there
to be seen too.

Lapua Cartridge Factory Museum
Die Grundausstellung des Museums präsentiert die
Geschichte der finnischen Fotografie sowie Fotografien
des 20. Jahrhunderts. Die Ausstellung basiert auf der
Ausstattung und der Fotografiesammlung des
Fotografiegeschäftes Pyhälahti, das in Lapua von 1900 –
1980 seinen Standort hatte.
Die Ausstellung beinhaltet ein Studio, den Warteraum,
den Arbeitsraum des Fotografen sowie eine Dunkelkammer.
Eine Menge Fotografien, die in dem früheren Fotostudio
aufgenommen wurden, sind hier zu betrachten.

Das Museum befindet sich in der früheren Munitionsfabrik.
Seine Grundausstellung präsentiert die alltägliche harte

nationale Munitionsproduktion. Die Ausstellung illustriert
aus verschiedenen Perspectiven die historischen
Charakterzüge des Mileus der früheren Munitionssfabrik

The Körtti museum
A museum about the Finnish religious movement was
founded in the Wanha Karhunmäki premises in Lapua.
The aim of the Körtti museum is to present the values of
the national religious movement, its historical importance
and the present. The Körtti museum is an excellent place
to visit for school children or for families and hobby
travellers. The museum is open on weekdays from 9 am
to 3 pm or by arrangement. There is no entrance fee to
the museum; a guided tour costs 30 €/group (max. 25
persons in a group).

History of the building
This building was planned in the 1920s by the
architect Onni Tarjanne. At the beginning, the building
was used as a loading place for the former cartridge
factory, and later as a surface finishing plant among
other uses. The art museum’s chief designer was
the Academician Juha Leiviskä from Helsinki. History
and the present are beautifully combined in the
museum architecture where light is the most
impressive and effective element.
Exhibition activity
The art museum’s exhibition activity is divided into
four themes in accordance with the four seasons.
In summer, the museum presents Ostrobothnian art;
a young artist’s production in autumn, foreign art in
winter, and works of nationally remarkable artists
in spring. The museum’s own collections are
presented at certain intervals.

Geschichte des Gebäudes
Das Gebäude wurde in den zwanziger Jahren des
20. Jahrhunderts von dem Architekten Onni Tarjanne
geplant. Zunächst wurde das Gebäude als Lager für
die damalige Munitionsfabrik genutzt und später
unter anderem als Polierfabrik. Chefdesigner des
Kunstmuseums war der Akademiker Juha Leiviskä
aus Helsinki. Geschichte und Gegenwart sind auf
bestechend schöne Weise in der Architektur des
Museums vereint, in dem das Licht als
beeindruckenstes und effektivstes Element wirkt.
Der Museumsladen [ taito | paukku ]
Neben den Arbeiten der ostrobothnischen
Handwerksindustrie und angewandter Kunst werden
im Museumsladen Taito Paukku Produkte, die Bezug
zu Vanha Paukku sowie zum Kunstmuseum und
seinen Ausstellungen haben, angeboten. Das
wechselnde Angebot in Taito Paukku präsentiert
Arbeiten von Unternehmern und Studenten der
Handwerksindustrie und angewandter Kunst. Bitte
besuchen Sie uns und werfen einen näheren Blick

Ausstellungen
Die Ausstellungsaktivitäten des Kunstmuseums sind

Cathedral
Lapua Cathedral was designed by the architect
C.L. Engel and was built in 1827.
In the churchyard you can find e.g. the
monument erected in honour of the fallen still
remaining in Karelia, The Angel Statue, the
War Memorial for 1918 and the Light Infantry
(Jääkäri) Statue. The bell-tower beside the
Cathedral is Lapua’s oldest construction that
is still in working order. The largest organ in
Finland, with 85 + 6 stops can also be found
in this Cathedral. The Lapua Organ Festival
takes place in the Cathedral every second

Das Heimatmuseum Ränkimäki macht die
Besucher mit dem Leben auf einem typischen
Bauernhof in Lapua am Ende des 19.

Domkirche
Die Domkirche in Lapua wurde von dem
Architekten C. L.Engel entworfen und 1827
erbaut. Auf dem Kirchhof befindet sich ein
Denkmal für die Finnen, die in Karelien gefallen
sind, die Engelstatue, ein Kriegerdenkmal für
die Gefallenen im Krieg 1918 sowie ein
Denkmal für das Jägerbatallion (leichte
Infanterie). Der Glockenturm neben der Kirche
ist Lapuas ältestes Gebäude, das noch in
Gebrauch ist. Die größte Orgel Finnlands mit
85 + 6 Registern steht in dieser Domkirche.
Alle zwei Jahre findet hier das LapuaOrgelfestival statt. Kirkkokatu 2

TRADITIONAL PARK
This park with its traditional ornamental plants reminds us
of traditional plant species that were once characteristic to former
farmyards. Annual and perennial flowers, vegetables, herbs, spices
and cereal plants grow in the exhibition areas of the park. The
plantations of trees and bushes represent ornamental plants that
were once characteristic to the beginning of the 1900s. The park
also provides benches and tables for visitors to rest for a rest, and
a sundial to adjust their watches to. The Traditional Park is situated
on the Koveronkoski riverside by main road 19.
EIN TRADITIONELLER PARK
Dieser Park mit seinen ornamentalen Pflanzungen erinnert uns an
traditionelle Bepflanzungen, die einst typisch waren für frühere
Bauernhöfe. Mehrjährige Blumen und Perennen, Gemüse, Kräuter,
Gewürze und Getreidesorten wachsen in diesem Park. Die Bepflanzung
mit Bäumen und Büschen repräsentiert die ornamentalen Pflanzungen,
die charakteristisch für den Beginn des 20. Jahrhunderts sind. Damit
die Besucher Pausen einlegen können, stehen im Park Tische und
Bänke bereit. An der Sonnenuhr können Sie ihre Armbanduhr
einstellen. Der traditionelle Park befindet sich am Ufer des Flusses
Koveronkoski an der Hauptstraße 19 (Valtatie).
Die Gärten Jokilaakso sind eine fantastische Touristenattraktion im Stadtzentrum an der
Domkirche. Der Garten befindet sich in einem über 100-jährigen Kulturmilieu. Eine Vielzahl
von Pflanzen in einem parkähnlichen Gebiet bietet Gartenliebhabern Anregung für ihren
eigenen Garten. Mehr als 7000 Pflanzen, Büsche, Bäume und Perennen sind hier zu finden.
Der Obstgarten enthält circa 40 alte Sorten von Apfel, Pflaume und Kirsche. Außerdem gibt
es eine große Anzahl von verschiedensten Beerenarten von Erdbeeren über Himbeeren bis
zu Blaubeeren. Auch spezielle Arten von wintergrünen Koniferen sowie finnischen
Rhododendrons sind vorhanden. Daneben hat ein Rosengarten hier sein Zuhause, gefüllt
mit Farben und Düften.
Auch eine Steinsammlung und ein Kräutergarten zur Arzneigewinnung hat hier seinen Platz
gefunden. Ungefähr 300 verschiedene Arten von Kräutern, medizinischen Pflanzen, Gewürzen
und Pflanzen zum Färben werden im
Ausstellungsgebiet gezeigt. Diese
Pflanzungen wurden im traditionellen
Stil eines Vier-Quadrate-Gartens
angelegt.

The Jokilaakso Gardens are a magnificent tourist attraction in
the town centre by the Cathedral.
The gardens are located in a cultural milieu which is over 100
years old. A variety of plants in the parklike area provide garden
lovers with fine ideas for their own gardens. Today there are more
than 7,000 established plants; bushes, trees and perennials.
The orchard consists of approx. 40 hardy old tree species of apple,
plum and cherry. The gardens also have a wide variety of different
berry species from strawberries to raspberry and blueberry bushes.
Also special types of winter green conifer plants and Finnish
rhododendrons can be found growing in the Gardens.
Furthermore, the gardens are home to a rose garden, filled with
colour and scent, a rockery collection and a hygrophytes section.
Approx. 300 different species of herbs, medicine plants,
spices and plants used for dyeing can be found
in the exhibition area. These have been planted
in the traditional style of a four-square garden.
