This region, Vinho Verde/ Minho Wines is the largest Portuguese
wine-growing zone and is located in the northwest of the country.
The region is rich in water resources, being bounded on the north
by the Minho River and the Atlantic Ocean to the west. The soils
are mostly granitic with high acidity, low level of phosphorus and
low fertility. However, due to the action of man for centuries
(construction of terraces and using natural fertilizers), they have become
more fertile.

Wine Regin located in the northeast of Portugal, classified by
UNESCO, on December 14, 2001, as World Heritage in the category
of cultural landscape. Surrounded by mountains that give you
mesological and specific climatic characteristics. This region is
bounded by the Douro River and produces wine for over 2000
years, including the world-famous Port wine.
This region is marked by highlands with vineyards between 400-500
meters quota, some reaching 800 meters high. The soils of granite
and schist illustrates an area of deep mountainous and valleys
with hills and gentle slopes from central-north of Portugal. The
temperate clima of continental influence justifies the cold winters with
the ocurrence of snow and the warm dry summers of Beira Interior.

The plain is the predominant type of relief, where Mountain
range Arrábida stand and extends in the East-West direction,
between Cape Espichel, Sesimbra, Setúbal and Palmela. The Sado
River estuary defines a sandy and fertile land extension. The presence of Phoenician and Greek traders (about a thousand years BC)
gave this land an early contact with the vine.
Located on the coastline of Portugal south of Lisbon. It is
believed that the vocation for the wine production in the Lisbon
region has been strongly encouraged by disseminated knowledge
of religious orders. First Benedictines, followed by the Clunicenses
and finally the Cistercian Order that had an outstanding position
in Alcobaça. The climate is temperate due to Atlantic influence.
Summers are fresh and mild winters.
