Ministry/online-help.htm
MISSIONARY CO-OPERATIVE
This weekend Piarist Father, Fr. David Powers,
will be with us. The Piarists were founded by
St. Joseph Calasanctius in Rome in 1617. In
addition to the vows of poverty, chastity and
obedience, the Piarists take a 4th vow to
educate youth and have over 200 school in over
30 countries. They were originally scheduled
on the weekend that Hurricane was scheduled
to hit. They will be coming to us from their
school in Kentuckey asking for our support in
their educational work in Appalachia and in
their outreach programs designed to help those
living in poverty in the mountains. 3 Piarists
are stationed in eastern Kentucky ministering
to the Catholics who are less than 1/2 of 1% of
the Population.
Monthly Parish Newsletter - If you didn't
receive the November newsletter, be sure to
pick one up at the back of the church. The
newsletter has important and valuable
information and updates for you and your
family.
RENEW: We will be doing an Advent Renew
Program using the same format we have for the
past 3 years – 6 sessions – 1 to 1 1/2 hours
each. The program will begin in November.
Sign Up Today for a day and time you wish to
meet and be a part of this program.
PARISH LIFE
Dinner & Variety Show - Join us Saturday, Nov.
19th from 6-8pm at St. Augustine's Hall for a
pre-Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the
fixings and a wonderful Variety Show featuring
our own children and teens. Tickets are $15 for
adults and $10 for children 13 and under. All
proceeds benefit the youth programs. Tickets
available in the monthly newsletter or after the
Children's and Life Teen masses.
PHOTO OP - It's not too late to sign up for the
Parish Pictorial Directory. We have a few slots
available. The table will be set up after Masses
at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church in Oak
Bluffs.
PARISH PICTORIAL DIRECTORY
Parish Pictorial Directory - We're very excited
about the opportunity for an updated Parish
Pictorial Directory. We're working with one of
the nation's leaders in church directories to put
together a beautiful memento of our parish
family. What is the Parish Pictorial Directory?
It's a compilation of photos of individuals and
families that are the heart of who we are as a
Parish. The Directory includes a parish roster,
ministry pages and other interesting facts
about Good Shepherd Parish. Families are
invited to sign up for a "photo session" which
will be held at the Parish Center. Everyone who
orders a family photo will receive a
complimentary Parish Directory AND a 10x13
picture. The Directory and your photos will be
available before Christmas so you can use
family photos as gifts or cards. The photo’s will
be taken this week - on November 8, 9, 10, 11
and 12 and more if we need more dates. Please
sign up after Mass or at Religious Ed.
Everyone gets a free book and photo and if you
volunteer to sign people up for a photo
appointment time, you get 50% any other
pictures you buy. If you're interested in helping
out or contact Michele 508-693-0342, ext. 15.

will be two evenings in November, 17th and
29th from 6 to 8pm to help Beth with putting
together the theme baskets. Call the office if

COFFEE FROM OUR DIOCESAN MISSION
The Diocese of Fall River sponsors a mission
parish in Guaimaca, Honduras . They grow
coffee beans there and if you wish to purchase
coffee beans from them you may do so. Each
bag of coffee sells for $10 - $5 goes to the coffee
coop to pain a fair and just wage - $5 goes to
the parish. Order forms are available in the
churches. The Diocese of Fall River celebrates
5 years presence in our diocesan mission in
Guaimaca,
Honduras.
With
the
encouragement of Bishop O'Malley, Fr. Paul
Canuel arrived in the fall of 2000 and, on
October 7, officially took possession of the two
parishes: St. Rose of Lima in Guaimaca and St.
Francis of Assisi in Orica, on October 7. Later,
joined by the Dominican Sisters of the
Presentation, the Mission Team continues to
serve the poorest of the poor through the
ministry of the Church. This outreach to the
poor and needy expresses our commitment to
the church's mission "ad gentes," announcing
that it is in Christ that people find salvation.

THE POWER OF GOD LIES WITHIN YOU
As you step across the threshold into the new
millennium, think about what God’s love
means for you and remember: You never stand
alone. You can go beyond yourself. You can
ask for forgiveness of those you have hurt. You
can care for the weak. You have the power to
touch hearts with compassion. Thanks to God
you can do it! 2000 years ago the Father sent
Jesus into the world as the Savior. Now
through the Holy Spirit, the power of God’s
love lies within YOU!
* REAVIVAR O CRISTIANISMO
Cuidado: Jesus contesta nosso cristianismo
semana desmente nossas domingueiras
semelhantes
não
passam
de
“nãos”
mascarados.
admiradores passam a vida declamando a
beleza do evangelho, criando poesias e
Quase ninguém respeita a tabelinha acima. No

sociedade moderna.
participe.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT
Knowing that all things in this world are gifts of God,
presented to us so that we can know God more easily and
make a return of love more readily; recognizing God as
the Origin of Life, the giver of freedom and the source of
all that we have and are and will be; knowing ourselves
to be recipients and caretakers of God’s many gifts;
grateful for all that we have received; eager to cultivate
our gifts out of love for God and one another, the
Mission of the Catholic Community of the Good
Shepherd on Martha’s Vineyard is to give witness to and
to celebrate the Risen Christ’s Presence in the life of each
person.
“in necessary things, unity; in doubtful things,
freedom; and in all things, charity.” Augustine
A Prayer for our Parish
God, our Father, bless our Parish of the Good Shepherd.
Help us to welcome all who come to worship, adore and
praise You, the One true God and Father of us all. Jesus,
be with us, as we celebrate your life, death and
resurrection in Word and Sacrament. Holy Spirit, fill our
parish family with your love. Help us to love one another
in our parish and in our family. Guide us in your holy
will for the present and the future of our Parish of the
Good Shepherd. AMEN.
