This year, through September and October, the AACMM, is proud to present at the Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre, an ambitious project involving musical genres composed by one of the greatest composers of Western culture, the German composer Ludwig van Beethoven. The Cycle of Cello and Piano Sonatas includes, in addition to the five original works, transcriptions for trumpet Sonata, a string trio sonata and the renowned “Kreutzer” violin sonata. As for the sonatas for piano and violin, Beethoven’s cello sonatas are part of the core repertoire for each musical instrument, depicting not only the three main phases of his creative life, but also the development music / dance and affirmation process of a new musical genre, and simultaneously “opening a window” to his passionate and magnificent emotional world. Luis musician, Andrade, currently a Madeiran living in the Netherlands and an active conductor, is the guest cellist. Madeira would later on become a strategic platform for Iberian expansion to the “new world”, as it was “seen” in the eyes of a Christian Europe, and of key importance to the process of Christian globalization. The diocese was founded in Funchal, in 1514, and would become an essential centre for the expansion and edification of overseas missionary churches. Thus, from September 17th to 20th is held the International Congress “500 Years - Diocese of Funchal - The First Global Diocese: History, Culture and Spirituality”. Definitely a cultural event of enormous scope that counts on the presence and contribution of numerous experts and researchers from the various areas of society, who will surely mark the passage of the Funchal’s Diocese 5th Centenary Celebration. All of them will certainly introduce and contribute with new data and information for the development of its history and expecting a future to be based on the analysis of current challenges. 11 International Congress “500 Years – Funchal’s Diocese” The First Global Diocese: History, Culture and Spirituality” conferences September 17, 18, 19 and 20 Edgar Morin, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, Guilherme d’Oliveira Martins, PierreAntoine Fabre, Dom Manuel Clemente, Fernando Cristóvão, Miguel Real, Annabela Rita, Mary DelPriore, Paquete de Oliveira, José Pedro Paiva, among others Casino Park Hotel Auditorium Further information on: http://www.congressodiocesefunchal500anos.org/ programa.html Promoter: Diocese of Funchal other events The Sea Weak Until August 3 August 1 “Red Sky Noise” “Gene Loves Gezebel” August 2 Sea Games Letícia Rodrigues Quim Barreiros other events August 3 Traditional Canoe’s Regatta “Pop Generation” Porto Moniz’s Folklore Group Porto Moniz Org.: Porto Moniz City Hall www.portomoniz.pt 29th Edition of Machico’s Gastronomic Festival August 1 to 10 Downtown Machico Org.: Machico City Hall “Discovering the Museum” August 2 – 3.30pm to 5.00pm Free guided tour on the 1st Saturday of the every month Participation requires prior registration Quinta das Cruzes Museum Telephone: 291 740 670 [email protected] 12 “ART’ Camacha 2014” 26th Edition of the ART’ Camacha Festival August 8 41st Anniversary Concert of the Parochial Band of São Lourenço da Camacha – 9.15pm Theatre group of Casa do Povo da Camacha – 10.30pm “Lusitanos” & Vânia Fernandes – 00.15am August 9 Tertulia with Humberto Pedras, Norberto Amaro and Nuno Abreu – 8.00pm “Maria Ascenção” Folklore Gala – 9.45pm Folklore Group of the Casa do Povo da Camacha “Grupo Amigos da Punta Rasca” - Tenerife (Canary Islands) Folklore Group of Rochão Folklore Group Dr. Gonçalo Sampaio – Braga (Portugal) “Coolfeel Band”Concert – 00.15am August 10 - “Day of the Emigrant” Traditional Car racing with “Carros de d’Arrastar” – 3.00pm Musical entertainment with: “Tuna da Nogueira”, “The Santo Condestável” Children’s Choir and Chordofones Group & “Jovens Talentos” Tertulia with Humberto Pedras, Norberto Amaro and Nuno Abreu – 7.00pm Old Pilgrimages of Rochão – 8.15pm “Despique” groups – 8.45pm “Encontros da Eira” with a special guest performance by the theatre group of Casa do Povo da Camacha – 9.45pm “Fado Evening” – 11.00pm Musicians: Hélder Caldeira (Portuguese guitar) and Paulo Caldeira (fado viola) Fado singers: Carmo Barreto, Rosa Vieira and Tina Freitas, among others August 11 – 8.00pm Rock Evening: rock club Camacha’s EB23, “Stratus”, “The Leech”, “Klinika” & “Calamity Islet” August 12 Children and youngsters’ folklore groups of Camacha; Casa do Povo da Camacha Pilgrimages & Traditions Group and Mandolins Group August 13 – 22.45pm Festival’s closing performance with the Portuguese composer and multiinstrumentalist Júlio Pereira Org.: Casa do Povo da Camacha www.casadopovocamacha.pt 13 other events August 8 to 13 São Vicente’s Festivities August 24 to 31 Downtown São Vicente Org.: São Vicente City Hall www.cm-saovicente.pt Madeira Wine Festival August 31 to September 7 Exhibitions, displays and live representations portraying the Madeira wine traditions and all that involves its production, plus a diversity of traditional musical concerts Arriaga Avenue - Funchal September 6 Live wine-harvest, followed by a traditional Ethnographic Parade with several ethnographic and folklore groups and recreation of the grape’s treading in a traditional wine presser Estreito de Câmara de Lobos other events Org.: Regional Secretariat for Culture, Tourism and Transport www.visitmadeira.pt “Discovering the Museum” September 6 – 3.30pm to 5.00pm Free guided tour on the 1st Saturday of the every month Participation requires prior registration Quinta das Cruzes Museum Telephone: 291 740 670 [email protected] 26th Edition of the Grape Festival and Farmers Market September 6 and 7 September 6 The “Borracheiros”, live wine-harvest, folklore dances and traditional singing performances September 7 Ethnographic Parade Villa of Porto da Cruz Org.: Casa do Povo of Porto da Cruz & PRODERAM 1st Edition of Ultra Skymarathon September 6 and 7 Santana Org.: Madeira Island Adventure Club, in partnership with the Portuguese Camping and Mountain Federation.
