ANTI-ARTHRITIC / CHONDROPROTECTIVE AGENT
Cosequin® DS Capsules
Long-term treatment with Cosequin
may help reduce non-infectious joint
inflammation
COMPOSITION
COSEQUIN DS (Double Strength Sprinkle Capsules for Dogs) is a
patented combination, where each capsule contains:
Glucosamine Hydrochloride 500 mg
Sodium Chondroitin Sulphate 400 mg
Also contains Manganese Gluconate & Calcium Ascorbate
ACTIONS
COSEQUIN DS provides the raw materials which are essential for
the synthesis of synovial fluid as well as the complete cartilage
matrix, including collagen, hyaluronic acid, and the various
modified sugar chains of the glycosaminoglycans.
Unlike steroids and some NSAIDs which can damage chondrocytes,
COSEQUIN DS is not a drug: it is a true, safe, nutraceutical.
COSEQUIN DS is a patented combination of glucosamine, purified
chondroitin sulfate and manganese ascorbate. Each component has
its own essential primary function in connective tissue synthesis.
Glucosamine hydrochloride - stimulates synthesis of synovial
fluid and the complete cartilage matrix, including collagen and
proteoglycans.
Chondroitin sulfate - in addition to being the major
glycosaminoglycan (GAG) found in cartilage, it provides protection
by inhibiting degradative enzymes. Manganese - must be present
in adequate amounts for proteoglycan biosynthesis to occur.
The synergistic effects of all components working concurrently is
what makes COSEQUIN DS unique.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
COSEQUIN DS is designed for daily supplementation. The initial
administration period is 4 - 6 weeks. The dosage may be increased,
but should not be decreased during this period. Most dogs will
respond during this time. The capsules are designed to be opened
and sprinkled onto the food.
Initial 4 - 6 weeks (Loading Dose):
5 to 10 kg: 1/2 capsule morning and evening
11 - 22 kg: 1 capsule morning and evening
23 - 44 kg: 2 capsules morning plus 1 capsule evening
over 45 kg: 2 capsules morning and evening
Long-term maintenance:
After initial 4 - 6 weeks, reduce the number of capsules by 1/2 to
1 capsule (depending on size of pet) until the most economical
(low) level that will keep the animal comfortable is found. This may
commonly be 1 capsule daily (or 1/2 capsule daily for small dogs or
cats). Administration may be increased at any time depending on
the pet’s needs.
PRESENTATION
Sprinkle Capsules, 120’s
STORAGE
Store below 30˚C (Room Temperature) out of direct sunlight.
Keep lid tightly closed to ensure freshness. Protect from moisture.
AVAILABILITY
Cartilage replenishes its major components by manufacturing and
remodelling collagen and proteoglycans.
This constant and ongoing synthesising process often generates
extremely large demands for the basic building blocks of both
collagen and proteoglycans. If the raw materials are not available in
the amounts required, at the time they are required, this synthesis
process is impaired, and the ability to replenish itself is reduced.
INDICATIONS
Long-term treatment with Cosequin may help reduce noninfectious joint inflammation

specifically to ensure maximum absorption
through the intestines.
