Recognized by the FIAPF as "Specialized Festival"

THE GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL aims to present the newest trends of young cinema worldwide. Films made by or for young people but, above all, films that reflect
creativity, independence and innovation.
2. -
THE 51st. GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will be held November 15 – 23, 2013.
3. -
SECTIONS. The following sections are established:
A. OFFICIAL SECTION
Feature films (more than 60’) or Short films (under 30’) produced after January 1st, 2012 are eligible.
Films participating in the Official Section may be in competition or out of competition.
GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL establishes that films that have been released commercially, screened at another film festival or shown at any event in Spain, are not
elegible to participate in the Official Section Competition.
B. “RELLUMES” (SPARKLES) SECTION
- As a complement to the Official Section, Rellumes aims to include projects from both recognized authors along with up-and-coming filmmaking talents. Creative sparkles which
deserve being highlighted for their innovative approach.
- Films with a minimum duration of 45 minutes and that have not been released in Spain are elegible to participate in the Rellumes section.
C. “ENFANTS TERRIBLES” SECTION
- The “Enfants Terribles” Section is specifically aimed at children and teenagers.
- Only feature films (more than 60’) produced after January 1st, 2012 and not released commercially in Spain, are eligible for competition.
GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL establishes that films that have been released commercially, screened at another film festival or shown at any event in Spain, are not
elegible to participate in the Enfants Terribles competition.
D. “ANIMAFICX” SECTION
- Animation feature films (more than 60’) and short films (under 30’) produced after January 1st, 2012 are eligible.
Feature films selected for the AnimaFICX Section may be in competition or out of competition. Short films selected for the AnimaFICX Section will be out of competition.
E. SIDEBARS
The Festival programme will include Outlines, Seasons, Retrospectives, etc. of films adding certain cultural elements considered to be interesting for young spectators and the general
audience as well.
LÍMITES –Daring films on the edge between fiction and non-fiction. Works that seek to explore the limits of filmmaking
GRAN ANGULAR – Features and short films films that don’t meet the requirements of competitive sections but deserve being screened for their special interest and for fitting in the
programming line of this Festival. This section will be divided into three sub-sectons:
- GRAN ANGULAR FICCIÓN. Fiction feature films.
- GRAN ANGULAR DOCUMENTAL. Documentary features and short films.
- GRAN ANGULAR ASTURIANO. Fiction and Documentary features and short films made in Asturias or by Asturian filmmakers.
MUTANT GENRES – Feature films in the edge of genres which fit in the programming line of the Festival.
NOCHES DEL CORTO ESPAÑOL (FICTION AND ANIMATION) – Two selections featuring some of the best short films produced in Spain in 2013.
DÍA D’ASTURIES – A new call will be opened for the short film award “DÍA D’ASTURIES”. Short films (under 30’) made in Asturias or by Asturian producers or filmmakers in 2013. A
specific jury will be designed to award this prize, sponsored by RTPA. The specific regulations and entry form will be available for consultation and download at the Festival’s website in
a few weeks time.

SUBMISSION
4.1. Only Short films may be submitted both for competitive and non-competitive sections via the online platform
sending a DVD screener* following the instructions specified in point 4.2. of these regulations.

company submitting the film to:

Following these deadlines (postmark):
1. August 23rd. 2013 for Enfants Terribles Section submissions
2. September 13th 2013 for the rest of the Festival sections
* Screeners submitted for selection will not be returned. The materials will be included in the archives of Mediateca de LABoral Centro de Arte y Creación Industrial with limited access,
being available for viewing only upon formal authorization.
GIJON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will not consider submissions of films via internet links, dropbox, vimeo, wetransfer or similar.

SELECTION
a) Once the film has been accepted for participation in the competitive sections, it cannot be withdrawn nor can it be presented in Spain before its first public screening in Gijón.
b) The Festival Organization will decide the order and dates of exhibition for each film.
c) The Festival will not screen each title more than five times during the dates of the Festival as stated in the International Regulations (FIAPF).
d) The Festival Organization will cover an insurance policy for all the prints from the moment these are handed to the shipping company until they are returned to the participant, as it is
stated in point 10 of the FIAPF regulations. Any claim regarding the condition of prints returned must be made within one month after it’s returned.

e) Delivery of promotional materials and screening copy of the film:
By October 20th. 2013, the following materials must be sent: Dossier including technical and artistic crew, bio-filmography of the director(s),
photographs and colour slides of the film and director(s), 2 posters and a DVD or Betacam tape with excerpts of the film for TV promotion. Any other press kits or advertising
materials are welcome.
Films participating in competitive sections must also send the Festival’s official entry form (if not sent with submission) duly signed.
By October 31st. 2013, please, send the print for screening, indicating clearly the title of the film, duration and/or metres, format and value to:

The sender must provide notification of print shipment by fax ( nº: +34 – 985 18 29 39 ) or e-mail ([email protected]) with shipping details (title of film, date of
delivery, format, method of shipment and the Air Way Bill number).
Shipping costs, from the place of origin and return, of films participating in competition will be assumed by the entity and/or individual(s) registering for participation. The
Festival Organization will not cover any costs regarding the delivery of related materials (screeners, posters, photographs, etc.).
After the festival, the prints will be forwarded to the address stated on the entry form. If the destination of the print should be changed, the owner must communicate it, in
writing, to the Festival before the date scheduled for the film screening.

JURIES AND AWARDS
A. INTERNATIONAL JURY
An International Jury formed by professionals of the film industry and culture will award the following prizes:
"PRINCIPADO DE ASTURIAS" Prize for the Best Feature Film (25.000 €uros) *.
Prize for the "BEST DIRECTOR"
Prize for the "BEST ACTRESS"
Prize for the "BEST ACTOR"
Prize for the "BEST SCRIPT"
Prize GIL PARRONDO for the "BEST ART DIRECTION"
"SPECIAL JURY PRIZE"
All prizes, except the “SPECIAL JURY PRIZE”, must be awarded.
B. YOUNG JURY
A Jury formed by young people, aged 17 - 26 years old, will award the following prizes:
YOUNG JURY PRIZE for the Best Feature Film (10.000 €uros) *.
YOUNG JURY PRIZE for the Best Short Film (3.000 €uros).
C. PRIZE OF THE AUDIENCE OF THE OFFICIAL SECTION
The audience will vote the Best Award for Best Film in the Official Section, sponsored by Fundación Foro Jovellanos del Principado de Asturias.
D. “ENFANTS TERRIBLES” AWARD
The audience will vote each film and the one that gets the highest score will be awarded the prize of each of the following categories:
- Films for children up to 12 years-old (4.000 Euros)
- Films for young people aged 13 years-old and older (8.000 Euros)
E. AUDIENCE AWARD “RELLUMES” SECTION
The audience will vote and award of 7.000 Euros for the Best Film among those selected for this competitive section.
F. BEST SHORT FILM AWARD
A specific jury will award the:
"PRINCIPADO DE ASTURIAS" Prize for the best short film (6.000 €uros)
Prize for the "BEST DIRECTOR" of a short film
Prize for the "BEST ACTRESS" in a short film
Prize for the "BEST ACTOR" in a short film
Prize for the "BEST SCRIPT" of a short film
Prize for the "BEST ART DIRECTION" of a short film
All prizes must be awarded.
G. “ANIMAFICX” AWARD
A specific jury, formed by professionals of culture and of the film and animation industries will award the AnimaFICX Prize (15.000 €uros)

ASSIGNATION OF THE PRIZES
The cash prizes will go to the distributor of the film. If the film has not been purchased by a Spanish distribution company, this will go to the international production or sales company that
registered the film for the Festival, as it is stated on the entry form.
* Additional prizes for the distribution in Spain:
Principado de Asturias Prize for the “Best Feature Film”: Additionally, a 15.000 €uros cash prize will be awarded to the Spanish distribution company that has acquired the
theatrical exhibition rights of the award-winning film either before the Festival is held or thereafter, provided the theatrical release takes place within a twelve month period as of
the completion of the Festival.
Young Jury Prize for the “Best Feature Film”: Additionally, a 6.000 €uros cash prize will be awarded to the Spanish distribution company that has acquired the theatrical exhibition
rights of the award-winning film either before the Festival is held or thereafter, provided the theatrical release takes place within a twelve month period as of the completion of
the Festival.
Enfants Terribles Prizes: Additionally, two 3.000 €uros cash prizes will be awarded, one to each of the Spanish distribution companies that acquire the theatrical exhibition rights of the films
awarded in these two categories, either before the Festival is held or thereafter, provided the theatrical release takes place within a twelve month period as of the completion of the
Festival.
The Spanish distribution companies that submit a film to any of the competitive sections which have additional distribution awards will be automatically considered
for the prizes awarded by the Festival plus the additional prizes for the distribution in Spain.
The cash prizes of the Official Section may be awarded to the same film in the International Jury and Young Jury categories.
The final amount of the awards will be determined once all taxes and other transfer costs to the winner are deducted.
8.The distribution company of the awarded films commits to mention the prize awarded by GIJON INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL-SPAIN on the credits of all prints, and
on all publicity and press releases.
9.Participation in the Festival implies total acceptance of the Regulations: The Interpretation of these will be at the discretion of the Festival Organizing Committee but in
accordance with International Regulations. In case of doubt, only the Spanish version of these Regulations will be considered valid.
