Moderator: Eduardo Gondim, Program Chair, DistribuTECH Brasil
Panelist: Máximo Luiz Pompmayer, ANEEL
Panelist: Claudio T. Correa Leite, CPqD
Panelist: Sergio Fugimoto, ABRADEE
In an effort to promote long-term economic growth, Brazil’s government launched a strategy that includes investing in improving energy efficiency and
sustainability. In response to the government’s strategy, Brazil’s National Development Bank—Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Economico e Social
(BNDES), the Brazilian Innovation Agency—Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos (FINEP) and the National Agency for Electricity—Agencia Nacional de
Energia Eletrica (ANEEL) launched the Inova Energia (Innovation in Energy) program that provides subsidies and other incentives to encourage
Brazilian companies and technology institutes to develop and commercialize innovative power sector technologies such as smart grids, solar power and
energy-efficient vehicles. This program is expected to strongly impact transmission and distribution utilities, as well as the companies that support them
with goods and services. Each panelist in this mega session is involved in or will be impacted by Inova Energia in a different way. A panelist representing
the program will share his/her views and goals for the program. A panelist from ANEEL will discuss the regulatory agency’s opinion of the program’s
technology developments, another panelist will talk about some of the research that is being conducted, while another representing a research center will
discuss the support research companies need from the program to carry out its mission. And, finally, someone from a utility will talk about the program’s
importance, as well as how his utility intends to use the resulting technology.
