BALLET IS THE HIGHLIGHT OF DECEMBER
In December and surrounded by a
Christmas atmosphere of celebration and
family spirit, we highlight the different
events that will be held throughout the
month and which every year recall our
traditions in this season. An excellent
way of getting into the spirit of Christmas
is by attending and watching some of
the classics associated to ballet and that
bring to mind our childhood.
Ballet will be in the limelight at
the Municipal Theatre Baltazar Dias
and Madeira Casino Congress Centre
Auditorium, with performances by the Carlos Fernandes Dance
Company, the Russian Classical Ballet and with the première of
the “The Russian Seasons in Madeira”, a project by the company
“Paladar à Música”.
These three proposals
will celebrate some of
the most famous ballets
such as: Sleeping Beauty,
Giselle, Don Quixote,
Swan Lake, Flames of
Paris,
Quebra-Nozes
Scheherazade.

CHRISTMAS IN FUNCHAL
The Orfeão Madeirense organizes, once again, the Choir
Festival with the ultimate goal of promoting choral music,
emphasizing the work developed in the archipelago of Madeira.
The event is held from December 27th to 30th in two of the
most emblematic venues part of our religious cultural heritage –
the Cathedral – Sé, and the Colégio Church, both in Funchal.
This year’s “Christmas in Funchal” welcomes a choir group
from the city of Aveiro (mainland Portugal) and Estimma, the
latest musical project within the Orfeão Madeirense, which will
be publically introduced on the 29th and 30th of December, as
well as other musical groups of the Region, from Funchal, Porto
da Cruz, Arco da Calheta and Boaventura.
