Resumo
O uso excessivo da Internet tem sido amplamente debatido na literatura, muitas
vezes designado de ‘Dependência da Internet’ ou também descrito por alguns autores
como ‚Utilização Problem{tica da Internet‛ (UPI).
A Internet representa um mundo virtual com vários ambientes e contextos
únicos e/ou actividades que vão desde a consulta de e-mails, compras até às apostas
online. Deve-se especificar qual a dependência da Internet, tendo em conta o foco
principal ou o objecto da dependência (e.g., apostas online, videogaming, redes sociais,
compras, sexo, trabalho).
Deve ser feita a distinção entre as dependências na Internet e a dependência da
Internet. Há diferença entre os jovens que escolhem as apostas online daqueles que
jogam de vídeo games online – ambos escolhem o envolvimento num comportamento
online, sendo a Internet o veiculo para o desenvolvimento desses comportamentos
aditivos.
Temos vindo a desenvolver uma linha de investigação sobre o impacto do uso
da Internet no bem-estar dos jovens portugueses. O objectivo geral é perceber quais os
aspectos positivos e negativos relacionados com o uso da internet.
Propomos apresentar dados relativos a 900 jovens portugueses relativos à
relação entre a dependência da Internet e a depressão, isolamento social, e preferências
online.

Summary
Excessive use of the Internet has been widely debated in the literature, often
called 'Internet addiction' and also described by some authors as Problematic Internet
Use (PIU).

The Internet is a virtual world with various environments and unique contexts
and / or activities ranging from emails, purchases up to online. It is important to
specify the Internet dependency, taking into account the focus or object of dependence
(eg, online gaming, videogaming, social networks, shopping, sex, work).
The distinction between dependency on the Internet and Internet addiction
should be done. No difference between young people who choose the online betting of
those who play online video games - both singles involvement in online behavior,
being the Internet the vehicle for the development of these addictive behaviors.
We have been developing a line of research on the impact of Internet use on the
well-being of Portuguese youth. The overall objective is to understand what the
positive and negative aspects of Internet use.
