CO-PRODUCTION SPONSOR MEDIA PARTNER SUPPORT LOGISTICAL SUPPORT Year after year the Association Sons da Lusofonia is preparing an event with Portuguese jazz musicians and the national jazz schools, which is presented in Lisbon at the São Luiz Teatro Municipal – turning this venue into the main hub of Portuguese jazz for those last 13 years -‐ during a weekend of celebration and encounters. A lot has been written about the festival already, therefore I only want to highlight that at this point where we once again present a 3 days festival program, all of this is only possible due to the investment by the Association Sons da Lusofonia – notably at a time when most of the country made a disinvestment in culture recently. In 2015 we are able to once again have three days of programmation thanks to the increased investment by the São Luiz Teatro Municipal and also because Sons da Lusofonia found a new sponsor. The Festa do Jazz is steadily growing. Only with time we can transform technique into art (a well known fact to all musicians). Only with time and a real investment we can gain the trust of the jazz community and can face new challenges. This is why it became an essential concern for us to continue with the National Jazz School Contest as well as keep on placing emphasis on promoting emerging artists like the Festa do Jazz has been doing in its programmation for years. Like that we were able to introduce and promote many new jazz artists along the years that are big names in both the Portuguese and international jazz scene today. The association Sons da Lusofonia has been investing in international partnerships to promote and internationalize the Portuguese improvised music and increase the circulation of Portuguese artists. Thanks to the process of opening up to an international level, we will present this year for the first time an international program, featuring two women that represent the best European jazz, with hardly any extra costs. From now on we will keep on incorporating the necessity of raising international awareness and knowledge of Portuguese jazz that is produced here amongst us, opening up to the world and make Festa do Jazz a festival of international reputation and an international reference, taking place here in Lisbon. Carlos Martins Musician, President of the Association Sons da Lusofonia and Artistic Director of Festa do Jazz.
