* The aim of the international conference is to
critically assess the corporate strategies and the
decision-making process of disinvestment and its
impacts for regional development. This involves a
review of current theoretical debates on the
subject, with emphasis on the firm level and the
regions in a global economy. The international
conference intends to discuss and compare
specific case studies of divestment in Portugal with
international experiences in a sectoral and regional
perspective. The debate of divestment processes
and impacts should inform policy responses.
