Travelling to Downtown
Airport
The Lisbon airport is located 5 km/ 3 miles to the north of the city and is served by an
excellent shuttle bus (Aerobus), several additional buses (Carris), and subway
(Metro). The journey into the city centre takes about 20 minutes and costs between
1.90 € and 3.50 €. The Aerobus ticket may by purchased in the bus. When taking the
other urban buses or the subway, you will need to purchase the electronic card 7
Colinas/Cidade Viva (0.50 €) on which one then charges the individual trips.
Acquisition of the card and pre-charging of travel can be done at the Carris/Metro
machines.
A taxi from the airport to the city center will cost somewhere in the region of 12-20 €,
depending on final location.

Hotels
Choice of accommodations in Lisbon is varied and plentiful, including Hotels,
Pensões, Hostels, B&Bs, and so forth. The two following options, moderately priced,
are located in the proximity of the Teatro da Trindade, where the conference will take
place.

Conference Information
Directions
The conference will take place at the historic Teatro da Trindade, founded in 1867,
and Lisbon’s premiere venue for musical comedy in the final decades of the
nineteenth-century. The event is hosted by the Teatro da Trindade and the Center for
the Study of Sociology and Aesthetics of Music, of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Registration
A registration desk will be set up in the theatre during the days of the conference.
Registration fee, payable on the first day of the conference, is €60 and includes the
conference dinner and complementary tickets for a performance night of Portuguese
operetta at the Teatro Ibérico, Rua de Xabregas, 54, Lisboa 1900-440,

Information for Presenters
General Information
Each presenter has been assigned a 30-minute time slot. The paper should be no
more than 20-minutes long, leaving 10 minutes for discussion.
Audio-Visual Equipment
The conference hall is equipped with a desktop computer with a CD/DVD drive, and
a data-projector. If you are planning to use PowerPoint, please bring your
presentation on a USB stick and load it on to the computer in the breaks between
sessions. You have also use your own laptop.
Handouts
W recommend that you print your handouts prior to arriving in Lisbon, although there
are also copy facilities downtown. There will be 22 participants in the conference,
which is also open to the public at large. Room capacity is about 50 people.
