Apolinário Pereira alias Salão Coboi (born in 1983, Portugal) is a Portugal and Switzerland based visual artist
and sculptor. Graduated from the University of Porto. Born in the European Wild West (Portugal) in 2009, Salão
Coboi means Cowboy Salon in Portuguese, Salon coming from “le Salon” from Paris, which was the greatest art
event of the Western World in the 18th and 19th centuries. In the same idea, Salão Coboi has collaborated with
various artists, in areas ranging from illustration to woodwork sculpture, photography, cinema, music and fashion.

For this first exhibition at colette, Salão Coboi decided to invite other visual artists around to contribute with an
illustration. The result of these collaborations is a limited edition of unique sculptures based on the illustrations, a
mashup between each artist’s and Salão Coboi’s universe. Salão Coboi combined special powers with Amandine
Urruty (FR), AKA Corleone (PT), Ben Newman (UK), Geneviève Gauckler (FR), Jack Teagle (UK), Jean
Jullien (FR), Jeremyville (AUS), Kevin Lyons (USA), Nicolas Barrome (FR), Raymond Lemstra (NL) and
Steven Harrington (USA).
“THE 9 WORTHIES”
Also invited to this exhibition are the best-dressed sculptures ever. The 9 Worthies reappear in a series created in
collaboration with the stylist Carla Cardoso (PT). These sympatic and monstrous resin characters dressed up in
high fashion replica key pieces are presented in a limited edition. The 9 Worthies are nine historical, or semi
legendary figures who, in the Middle Ages, were believed to personify the ideals of chivalry. 9 marks the end of a
stage in the spiritual development and the beginning of another, a superior stage. In such an apocalyptic scenario,
Salão Coboi likes to imagine that these could be the 9 chosen ones, that represent the beginning of the superior
stage.
