Ricardo Angélico subject of work is to analyse the identity of the images thought a process that
expropriates images from their contexts in order to develop new languages. His latest series, “The
Aronburg Mystery” reveals the obsession with the American writer Henry Darger that created a
fifteen thousand pages story, telling about the disappearance of a little girl (Elsie Paroubeck / Annie
Aronburg) which inspires a horrific battle between Christians and misbelievers. The composition of
Angélico’s art works follows the Darger technique in copying images from magazines and putting
them in different contexts organized in war sceneries or cinema maquettes.
Ricardo Angélico was born in Angola in 1973 and works and lives in Póvoa de Varzim. He
graduated in Painting by the Faculdade de Belas-Artes da Universidade do Porto. About his solo
exhibitions we have to distinguish The Aronburg Mystery (Carlos Carvalho Arte Contemporânea,
Lisbon, 2008) Novas espécies alimentares (Gallery Ara, Lisbon, 2001), O Museu de Cera –
imagens da colecção Christian D. Karloff, (Fundação D. Luís I, Cascais, 2003) and Caro Jünger/
Caro Nabokov (Museu Nacional de História Natural – Sala do Veado, Lisbon, 2004). His most
