RESUMO
A sociologia da religião tem em Max Weber um exaustivo e grandioso trabalho. Nos estudos sobre as
religiões mundiais o autor buscou elucidar questões-chave para compreender a lógica que se compunha a
sociedade em análise. Neste artigo partimos do referencial de seu estudo sobre a Índia e as religiões
Hinduísmo e Budismo com objetivo de compreender os fatores determinantes que moldam as doutrinas,
seu caráter político e social aplicando as esferas da vida: político e doméstica; tendo como meta comparar
as duas religiões. Para chegar ao objetivo foram selecionados referenciais teóricos introdutórios à sociologia
da religião do autor em análise e outros estudiosos que auxiliam na compreensão dos fenômenos. A
pesquisa utiliza como questão-variável, em um ponto Hinduísmo - as castas e as motivações que os levam
a seguir a lógica no qual estão inseridos - e o contraponto, o Budismo antigo e duas divisões, hinayana e
mahayana. Em caráter de conclusão percebeu-se que as principais similitudes e diferenças permeiam as
questões ritualísticas, dharma e karma, políticas e intelectuais.

ABSTRACT
The sociology of religion has in Max Weber a comprehensive and great work. In studies of world
religions the author sought to elucidate key issues to understand the logic that society consisted in analysis.
In this paper we set out the framework of his study about India and Hinduism and Buddhism religions in
order to understand the determinants that shape the doctrines, its political and social character applying
spheres of life: political and domestic; with the goal of comparing the two religions. To reach the goal
referential introductory sociology of religion in the author's analysis and other scholars that assist in
understanding the phenomena theorists were selected. The research uses as a matter-variable at a point
Hinduism - caste and the motivations that lead them to follow the logic in which they live - and the
counterpoint, the former two divisions and Buddhism, Hinayana and Mahayana. In character completion is
realized that the main similarities and differences permeate the ritualistic, dharma and karma, political and
intellectual issues.
