Increase in the PTO Official Fees
Dear Friends and Clients,
As announced in the Complimentary Edition of the Brazilian PTO Official Bulletin and our Electronic
Bulletin No. 18 (available at webpage http://www.daniel.adv.br), from June 1, 2009, some fees
charged by the PTO for their services have suffered a considerable readjustment, particularly those
services provided by the Trademark Directorate, when the interested party makes a request by
means of a petition printed on paper, and not by electronic means (such as electronic petitions), as
with the Patent Directorate.
For purely illustrative purposes, we have set out below some of the services of the Trademark
Directorate whose official fees have suffered a major increase, when solicited by printed petitions:

With regards to patents, we have set out below the principal services which suffered an increase in
the official fee.

As you can see from the above table, the biggest victim of the increased official fees is in the
technical examination of a Patent Application. Apart from the increase of 25% in the basic fee for
requesting the examination, the PTO created bands related to the number of claims present in each
patent application.
