Coração dos Jogos, a Barra vai receber
a maioria dos esportes Olímpicos e
Paralímpicos. Lá funcionará, após 2016,
numa área de 40 mil m², o Centro
Olímpico de Treinamento (COT),
reaproveitando boa parte do Parque
Olímpico e confirmando o maior legado
esportivo do projeto.
Com uma estrutura única em toda a
América do Sul - incluindo, por exemplo,
departamentos de medicina esportiva
e de nutrição -, o COT será dedicado ao
treinamento e alojamento de atletas
brasileiros e estrangeiros de alta
performance. Também na Barra estará
situado o Campo Olímpico de Golfe, que
vai receber as partidas em 2016, quando
o esporte retornará ao programa
Olímpico após 112 anos de ausência.
Barra, the heart of the Games, will
host the majority of Olympic and
Paralympic sports. After 2016, the
Olympic Training Centre (COT, in its
Portuguese initialisation), the project’s
major sporting legacy, will be based
there, making use of most of the
Olympic Park area. Unique to South
America - including, for example, sport
medicine and nutrition departments
- COT will be dedicated to hosting and
training Brazilian and international
elite athletes. The Olympic Golf Course,
which will host the first Games
competition in the sport in 112 years,
will also be based in Barra.

Depois de encerradas as competições
de 2016, o Centro Olímpico de Tênis,
no modo legado, será o endereço de
torneios internacionais e funcionará
como o primeiro estádio do país
dedicado exclusivamente ao esporte.
Da mesma forma, o novo Velódromo
Olímpico do Rio deverá estabelecer
mais oportunidades para a formação de
novos atletas e qualificará a cidade para
receber grandes competições de ciclismo.
After the 2016 competitions, the
Olympic Tennis Centre, a legacy
venue, will host international
tournaments as the first stadium in
the country dedicated exclusively
to the sport. The new Rio Olympic
Velodrome will likewise grant
increased opportunities for training of
new athletes and will allow the city to
host major cycling competitions.

NOMADIC ARCHITECTURE
A sustentabilidade está no DNA dos
Jogos. Por isso, algumas instalações
ganharão uma nova utilização após
as competições de 2016. O Hall 4 é
um destes casos. Sede do handebol
e do goalball, após os Jogos a arena
será desmontada e reciclada, para dar
origem a quatro escolas, que ficarão
como legado para o Rio. A técnica
de arquitetura nômade permite que
60% de uma instalação gerem 80%
de escolas, bibliotecas ou ginásios em
qualquer lugar do Brasil.
Sustainability is in the Games’ DNA,
meaning that certain venues will
serve new purposes after their use
during Rio 2016. Hall 4 is one such
example; the host venue for handball
and goalball will be disassembled and
recycled after the Games to build four
schools, as part of the Games’ legacy
to the city. The nomadic architecture
technique employed permits 60% of a
venue to provide 80% of the materials
needed for construction of schools,
libraries or gyms in any part of Brazil.

Forte. Para embelezar o vôlei de praia,
a “Princesinha do Mar”. Para deixar a
vela ainda mais emocionante, o Pão
de Açúcar.
Parte da mesma região dos Jogos, a
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas receberá o
remo e a canoagem de velocidade,
esportes que, pela primeira vez em
uma edição Olímpica, serão disputados
numa área residencial da cidade-sede.

The combination of these two factors
was fundamental for Rio in winning
the right to host the Games.
In this spirit, the Copacabana zone is
distinguishing itself as a reference for
the competitions. Copacabana’s fort
will provide inspiration to triathletes,
with the beach a beautiful setting for
beach volleyball, and the Sugarloaf
an emotive backdrop to the sailing
competition. The Rodrigo de Freitas
Lagoon, part of the same Games zone,
will host rowing and canoe sprint,
sports that will be held in a residential
area of the host city for the first time.

events. I’ve never competed at the Olympic Stadium so,
for me, it will be very special.

Passada a Copa do Mundo, as atenções
dos amantes de todos os esportes
estarão novamente voltadas para o
Maracanã em agosto de 2016.
O templo do futebol será palco das
cerimônias de abertura e encerramento
dos Jogos Olímpicos e Paralímpicos
e receberá as partidas dos torneios
masculino e feminino de futebol,
inclusive as finais. Casa do voleibol
brasileiro, o Maracanãzinho passa por
uma requalificação de suas quadras
para sediar a competição Olímpica
do esporte. Também parte da Região
Maracanã, o Sambódromo sediará o
torneio de tiro com arco e a chegada
da maratona. Reformado, o Estádio
Olímpico dará às estrelas do atletismo
as melhores condições para superar
marcas e recordes.
After the FIFA World Cup, sport
lovers’ attention will return to the
Maracanã in August 2016. The temple
of football will stage the Olympic
and Paralympic opening and closing
ceremonies, and will host men’s and
women’s football matches, including
the finals. The home of Brazilian
volleyball, the Maracanãzinho arena,
is undergoing a renovation of its
courts to host Olympic competitions.
The Sambódromo, also part of the
Maracanã zone, will host the archery
competition and the marathon
finishing line.
The renovated Olympic Stadium

athletics competitors to excel, and set
new records.

Peça fundamental na construção do
legado social dos Jogos, a região de
Deodoro vai sediar esportes Olímpicos
- hipismo (que se divide em saltos,
adestramento e concurso completo
de equitação), ciclismo BMX, ciclismo
mountain bike, pentatlo moderno, tiro
esportivo, canoagem slalom, hóquei
sobre grama, rugby e basquetebol - e
Paralímpicos - tiro esportivo, hipismo,
esgrima e futebol de 7. Para receber
as competições, além de uma maior
parte de instalações temporárias ou a
reformar, serão construídas outras - a
Arena de Deodoro, por exemplo - que
ficarão como legado, ajudando a formar
novas gerações de atletas.

A fundamental element in the Games’
social legacy, the Deodoro zone will
host Olympic sports in equestrian
(jumping, dressage and eventing),
BMX cycling, mountain bike cycling,
modern pentathlon, shooting, canoe
slalom, hockey, rugby and basketball,
and Paralympic events in shooting,
equestrian, fencing and 7-a-side
football. In addition to temporary or
renovated sites, which will constitute
a majority of the area’s venues, others,
such as the Deodoro Arena, will be
specially built for the Games, and
will remain as sporting legacy to help
train new generations of athletes.

No Parque Olímpico de Deodoro,
onde o antigo e o novo se encontram,
esportes tradicionais conviverão com
disciplinas recentemente incluídas no
programa. Destas últimas, a sede por
excelência será o Parque Radical.
Após os Jogos, além de preservar o
circuito de canoagem slalom e a pista
de ciclismo BMX, o local deixará como
legado aos cariocas 500 mil m² de área
de lazer, configurando-se no segundo
maior parque da cidade (atrás apenas
do Parque do Flamengo).
The old and the new will meet in the
Deodoro Olympic Park: traditional
sports will be held side-by-side
with newcomers to the Olympic
programme. For the latter, the sport
location par excellence will be the
X-Park.
After the Games, in addition to the
canoe slalom and BMX courses, the
site will host a 500,000 m2 leisure
area for the city’s population,
the second biggest in Rio (after
Flamengo Park).

alcançarão todo o Brasil. Além do Rio
de Janeiro, São Paulo, Belo Horizonte,
Brasília e Salvador também receberão
partidas de futebol, reaproveitando
estruturas utilizadas na Copa do
Mundo. Antes disso, o revezamento da
tocha levará a chama Olímpica a todas
as capitais e principais pontos turísticos.
E, desde já, mais de 70 cidades das
cinco regiões do país preparam-se
para receber delegações estrangeiras
no período de treinamento pré-Jogos,
fomentando a renovação do parque
esportivo nacional.
The first Olympic and Paralympic
Games in South America will reach all
of Brazil. In addition to Rio de Janeiro,
São Paulo, Belo Horizonte, Brasilia
and Salvador will also host football
matches, using infrastructure built
or renovated for the World Cup. Prior
to this, the Olympic torch relay will
carry the Olympic flame to all state
capitals and main tourist locations.
More than 70 cities across Brazil’s five
regions are preparing themselves to
welcome international delegations
during the pre-Games training period,
