Rotary International District 7530 September, 2009 “The Future of Rotary is in Your Hands” Polio goals for the year. DG Jody Light Official club visits continue to provide a glimpse into the many exciting activities and projects being planned and produced throughout the region. Clubs are becoming quite creative with new and unique programs to raise funds for club projects in the local community, to support their club’s international efforts, and to help fulfill their Foundation and The Fairmont Rotary Club is gearing up for a unique auction on Saturday, Sept. 26th featuring overstocked items from the top television and online auction site (they informed me we’re not supposed to mention QVC specifically). Details available thru the district database calendar link or our District website at www.rotary7530.org. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the club’s Polio efforts as well as various club projects. The gavel drops at 5 PM at East Fairmont High School. The Weirton Rotary Club is finalizing plans for their first Oktoberfest at Milton Park in Weirton … also on Saturday, September 26th with the fun beginning at 3 PM. The festivities include authentic German food, entertainment, and activities for the entire family … with a portion of the proceeds going toward their Polio Plus goal. There are so many great things occurring in our District … we just need to “share” the information with fellow clubs. If you have an event, fundraiser, etc. that you’d like promoted within the District, PLEASE send the basic info. to Clark Reese, District webmaster, for inclusion on our website. The calendar on our District Database is also an excellent resource for “spreading the word”. Two additional students from South Korea, from another exchange program, joined our group and met some new friends. Special thanks to the Harrison County Rotary Club for providing the site for this special weekend event, and for preparing a delicious luncheon for everyone on Saturday. Several club members were also on hand to meet our new guests. 2009-2010 Rotary International President John Kenny (Scotland) Page 2 Tracking District Polio Plus Contributions Clubs in District 7530 are busy making plans for a variety of fundraising events to fulfill their $2,000 annual goal for RI’s Polio Plus campaign, and we want to make sure we track our progress in a timely basis. Since it often takes several weeks for contributions to display in the Rotary Foundation’s reports, please send all Polio Plus donations, or a copy of the check and applicable paperwork, directly to our District Polio Plus Chairman, Ron LaNeve. Byrd High School in Nutter Fort. A: NO, there is no provision for granting attendance credit for the above 3. Do we include attendance for our “honorary members”? A: No 4. How does the “rule of 85” apply to attendance? A: If a member’s age and number of years as a Rotary member equals “85”, their attendance is not included in monthly club attendance reports. Applicants are also being sought for the four team member slots with those interviews being held on October 21st at Robert C. Byrd High School beginning at 12:30 PM. 5. Where can I find more information regarding RI’s attendance policy? Young professionals from 25—40 years of age are encouraged to consider this outstanding cultural and vocational opportunity. Applicants should be employed full-time, in good physical health, and able to be away from their workplace for the four week period. NOTE: Clubs wishing to host our GSE Inbound Team, tentatively scheduled for April 4—May 4, 2010, should submit their GSE Host Club Request Form asap to Bobby Brown or DG Jody Light. 2. Can attendance be granted for the folllowing reasons? a) Jury Duty Elkins, WV 26241 Team Leader applications (Rotarians) should be submitted by September 28th, and team member applications should be submitted by October 15th to Bobby Brown via email at: bobbydg2003.com or US mail to: 4 Vail Drive Ripley, WV 25271 A: A make-up meeting is valid for a missed meeting at your home club for “2 weeks prior to and 2 weeks following” the missed meeting only. Make-ups cannot be carried forward, or used “whenever”. b) Req’d attendance at sessions of a state legislature 100 Maple Street Final plans are underway to select a Team Leader and four team members to travel to District 7000 in Puerto Rico from approx. I hope many of you have the opportunity to meet these exceptional young people sometime during the year. Students, host families and counselors recently participated in an orientation program allowing students to meet each other for the first time while host families and club counselors received training and instructions on what to expect in the coming months. District Youth Exchange Chair Suzie Steele of the Braxton Rotary Club reports that all students are now in our District and have already enjoyed a couple special activities including their initial Orientation, with assistance from the Harrison County Club, and just returned from a fun weekend getaway at AG Greg Smith’s farm, sponsored by the Parkersburg Rotary Club. Another outing in Canaan Valley, sponsored by the Tucker County Rotary Club, will be held soon. As a quick introduction to our group … Julieta Rojos is a 16 yr. old student from Toluca, Mexico and is being hosted by the Clarksburg Rotary Club. She likes to sing, read, and write, and has been dancing since she was 3 yrs. Old. She hopes to become a psychologist or nutriologist. Naoki Matsumoto, from Shimonoseki, Yamaguchi, Japan, is being hosted by the Morgantown North Rotary Club. Naoki is 18 yrs., enjoys reading, listening to music, and playing sports. He would like to pursue a career abroad that would teach about Japan to become a bridge between Japan and other countries. Franziska Jansche travels to our District from Sinshein, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany. At 16 yrs. Old, Franzi likes to play keyboards, draw, participate in theatre, and walk her dogs. She is being hosted by the Harrison County Rotary Club. Aline Campo’s home is St. Martin D’Heres, France and is being hosted by the Parkersburg Rotary Club. Aline is 18 yrs. Old and enjoys synchronized swim- ming, shopping, skiing, snowboarding, and spending time with friends. She hopes to pursue a career in a foreign country. Maija Pynssi is a 17 yr. old student from Villahde, Finland and is sponsored by the Spencer Rotary Club. She enjoys shopping, playing piano, jogging, and scounting, and is considering a career that would allow her to work with people, such as a doctor or teacher. Manoel Melo is being hosted by the Braxton County Club after travelling from his home in Garanhuns, Pernambuco, Brazil. He enjoys reading, playing guitar and piano, and spending time on the computer, and is considering a career in law or medicine. Nitipon Saenhchairat “Tah” is from Sawankhalok, Sukhothai, Thailand and is being hosted by the Wheeling Rotary Club. At 16 yrs. Old, Tah plays his Thai classical flute and enjoys reading comics, swimming, and listening to pop music. He hopes to become a scientist.
