Sacramental Information
Dear Parishioners,
Baptism
Have you ever noticed how even the most serious of individuals can’t help but smile in the presence of a newborn
baby? No matter the tension, the stress and the burdens
we carry in this fast-paced world of ours, the smile, the
giggle and the joy that bubble forth from an infant cause
us to slow down, to pause and to notice – to let go, to let
loose and to laugh.
Contact the Parish office to arrange for baptismal preparation. Baptisms are celebrated monthly except during Lent.
Perhaps the sight of a newborn baby reminds us of the
joy and simplicity we’ve long forgotten. Perhaps the sight
rekindles in us a desire to dream, to dare, and to imagine
the hope and promise of what we can yet become, no
matter what lies in our past. Whatever the case, there’s
nothing like the power of a newborn baby to stop us
in our tracks, to melt our cold exteriors and to touch
our hearts at their core.
Could this be the reason that when, in the fullness of
time, God decided to let the Word - who was God and
was with God from the very beginning - take on flesh, he
entered our world in the form of an infant? This surely
got the attention of many people, from simple shepherds
to wise men to the most powerful of kings. And it’s the
same infant Jesus who continues to attract and sustain our attention all these thousands of years later,
and who draws us here this Christmas to celebrate
once again the mystery by which God came to dwell
among us.
Reflecting on this mystery of the Incarnation, its implications and its meaning, has filled many volumes. But, if we
were to stop at simply marveling at God’s bold decision to become one like us, walking in our shoes and
living in our skin, we would possibly miss the main point
of the mystery – God became like us so that we might
become like God!
God did not only take on flesh in a newborn babe
wrapped in swaddling clothes and lying in a manger. No,
the truth is that God deeply desires to take on flesh
in each of us – right here, right now, today – so that
through us, the presence of the Word made flesh may
continue to be made known and made real in our world
today, and we might know our identity and dignity as
children of God.

Rosary
The Rosary is recited daily after the 8 am Mass and
before the 5:30 pm Mass on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Hispanic Community has a Rosary Hour every
Monday at 6 pm in the Rectory Chapel.
God wants to make a home in our hearts so that we
will share him with the world by the way we live our lives
in conformity with that of Christ. By the way we love, forgive and reach out to others, we will draw others’ attention
and lead them closer to Christ, just like a newborn babe
commands the attention of all in the room.
The Word made flesh, whose birth we celebrate today,
lived, suffered, was crucified and buried, then rose from
the dead and returned to the Father – and yet he remains with us now in the bread that we break and
share, in the face of the person next to us, and in our
efforts to be and to bear his presence to others. We’ve
already received the greatest gift of all. What gift can we
give in exchange this Christmas? How can we make a
home for Christ in our hearts today and every day? May
the answer to these questions bring you closer to God
and closer to your loved ones.
MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Fr. Tad

A Christmas Prayer
Jesus, the Light of the World, as we celebrate
your birth. . . may we begin to see the world in
the light of the understanding you give us. As
you chose the lowly, the outcasts, and the
poor to receive the greatest news the world
had ever known, so may we worship you in meekness
of heart. May we also remember our brothers and
sisters less fortunate than ourselves in this season of
giving. Amen.
Compassion

What he requires of us is this:
to do what is just, to show constant love,
and to walk humbly with our God.

BIGGER CANDLES ARE HERE!
Saturday
Sunday
We have acquired large 6-day candles for parishioner use
in the church. Because of the increase in cost, however,
we have had to increase the price. Candles can be purchased for $5.00 each.
10:30 am
We use the honor system with our candles, assuming that
users will place money in the candle room slot. It has
come to our attention, nevertheless, that receipts are often short of candles purchased. Please be honorable.

Scripture Readings
for THIS Sunday
First Reading: 2 Samuel 7:1-5, 8-16
Psalm: 89
Second Reading: Romans 16:25-27
Gospel Reading: Luke 1:26-38
The angel Gabriel today confronts Mary with a mystery.
The mystery of salvation in Christ is not a mystery that is
solved, but a reality beyond our comprehension that we
must choose to enter into. In the liturgy of the Eastern
Church, everyone waits to see if Mary will enter into the
mystery: God waits, Adam and Eve and all the souls of
the dead who long for paradise wait, angels wait for new
heavenly companions. And there is much rejoicing when
her decision is “yes.”
We have less dramatic choices offered to us, but the
mystery of our salvation in Christ is by no means “solved.”
We may understand it a bit better due to Mary’s “yes.” We
may be a bit closer to it through the passion, death, and
resurrection of Jesus Christ. But it still remains a mystery
to which we all must give our own “yes.” Soon we will be
singing “O come, let us adore him.”
May our Advent prayer, our echo of
Mary’s “yes,” continue then, so we
may enter into the mystery of our
salvation in Jesus Christ, God
among us.

Ebola Donations
Many Catholics in the United States want to know how
they can help the tragedy of the Ebola virus to our brothers and sisters in West Africa. Catholic Relief Services
has been active in the countries most affected by Ebola
and has committed $1.5 million of its emergency funds
and sought support from various donors to further its
work in fighting the virus. Without a vaccine or cure, the
best weapon is education. That is the focus of CRS’ effort
as well as working to see that those who die of Ebola receive burials that are both safe and signified.
Donations to this important effort can be sent to Catholic
Relief Services, P.O. Box 17090, Baltimore MD 21297
with “Ebola Collection” on the memo line.
Advertise in The Valley Catholic
The Valley Catholic invites businesses to place an advertisement and help promote their business to 75,000
households throughout Santa Clara County. There are a
variety of display ad sizes to suit individual messages.
Business card ads begin at $125.

leadership, faith, compassion and enthusiasm?
Please extend an invitation to them to the upcoming discernment retreats for young adults, 18-35 who are baptized Catholics and single. The weekend for men will be

trevas.
simplicidade do Natal.
A lógica
Natal no nosso coração.
Mensagem de Natal do CPP
Os membros deste Conselho Paroquial desejam a toda a
nossa comunidade um Santo e Alegre Natal. Desejam
particular as nossas crianças.
João Pereira Arruda; Presidente do CPP
estaremos cantando “Venid y adoremos”.
— Copyright
