BRAZIL - Scattered showers of limited significance occurred in Brazil coffee production areas from northern Parana to
southern Sul de Minas Monday. Rainfall of 1 to 4 millimeters occurred through 0100 CDT (0600 GMT) today. Brazil afternoon
temperatures Monday were in the upper teens and lower 20s in eastern Sao Paulo – mostly near the Port of Santos. Highs in
most coffee production areas were in the upper 20s and lower 30s from northern Parana to southernmost Sul de Minas. Highs
elsewhere were in the upper 20s to lower 30s with many highs of 34 to 36 in northern Minas Gerais and central Bahia.
Additional showers of very light intensity will occur in coffee production areas through Thursday. Most of the precipitation will be
from Rio de Janeiro and Sul de Minas southward into Parana, but a few coastal areas will also receive light rainfall into eastern
Bahia. Daily rainfall will vary from a trace to 6 millimeters with poor coverage leaving most of the production region unaffected
by significant rain.
A stronger cold front will bring greater rainfall to Parana Friday and to the remainder of southern coffee areas in Sao Paulo and
Sul de Minas during the weekend. Rain totals may range from 20 to 45 millimeters in Parana and 10 to 25 millimeters in Sao
Paulo (southwestern areas wettest). Rainfall from northeastern Sao Paulo into Sul de Minas may range from 3 to 20
millimeters with some potential for locally more in southernmost Sul de Minas and southern Rio de Janeiro. Most of the coffee
production region will not receive enough rain to induce flowering, but a close watch on northern Parana and southwestern Sao
Paulo will be warranted. Rainfall in Sul de Minas, central and northern Rio de Janeiro, Zona de Mata and portions of central
Minas Gerais will range from 1 to 10 millimeters with a few totals to 13 millimeters. Areas further north will be dry through the
weekend except a few coastal areas of Espirito Santo and Bahia where rainfall may range up to 10 millimeters, as well. Very
little rain of significance is expected next week, although additional showers will occur periodically in coastal areas.
Temperatures will trend cooler behind the weekend precipitation with the coolest conditions likely Sunday and Monday
mornings. Extreme lows will slip to the range of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the traditionally coldest areas of Sul de Minas while in
the middle and upper single digits in the remainder of the region from northern Parana through Sao Paulo.

Brazil Coffee Weather - Cooling This Weekend, Early Next Week - By Drew Lerner
Kansas City, August 16 (World Weather, Inc.) – Very light rain occurred in southern coffee production areas of Brazil Monday
and early today, but no flowering resulted. Additional rain will occur this week with the greatest amounts expected Friday into
Sunday morning. Cooler air will follow the precipitation with temperatures Sunday and Monday expected to be coolest. A little
patchy soft frost “may” evolve in the traditionally coldest areas of southern Sul de Minas, but most major coffee areas will not
be at risk of any damaging cold conditions.
