Aula 1: “DINKS, DEWKS and CO, Marriage, Fertility and Childlessness in the US”. IRES Discussion Paper
2012/13 [with T. Baudin and P. Gobbi]
Develops a theory of marriage and parenthood decisions, where one distinguishes the choice to have children from
the choice of the number of children. Allows to measure voluntary and involuntary childlessness from the data.
Aula 2: “From Polygyny to Serial Monogamy: a Unified Theory of Marriage Institutions”. CORE discussion paper
2012/18 [with F. Mariani]
Explains the transition from polygyny to monogamy, and the rise of serial monogamy as a function of inequality
among males and between genders. Shows that polygyny could emerge as an political equilibrium in a democracy;
monogamy is a prerequisite to serial monogamy, as it promotes more than polygyny the upward social mobility of
females.
